Editorial Reviews

CD Description
Although he is a seasoned and well-loved live performer, James Taylor had never made a live record before 1993, when hereleased this two-CD set. Culled from a series of 14 concerts, these 30 songs capture the genial Taylor digging into animpressively rich bag of songs, with crowd-pleasing results. It's an extremely faithful recording--no overdubs--and theband is top-notch, with a standout backup vocal section. Taylor proves he doesn't mind serving up old chestnuts even after performing them for decades, and delivers the goods withsuch staples as "You've Got a Friend" and "Fire and Rain".
The first CD concentrates a bit more on classic-era James Taylor--CD 2 leans a bit toward his later career--but mostof these songs will be familiar to anyone who was around when Taylor was a fixture on American radio. Beginning with a luminescent "Sweet Baby James", he remains faithful to the spirit of hits like "Shower the People" "Your Smiling Face", and "How Sweet it Is", although he sometimes plays around with his vocal delivery, as on the driving "Steamroller Blues". All in all, this is a satisfying retrospective of a distinguished body of work.

Customer Reviews

Amasing live recordings, pure studio quality5
George Massenburg, audio inovator and acoustic/electroinc genius has captured the essence of the sublime James Taylor in this epic album. All the hits, a few obscure pieces, but everything played to perfection by the best musicians you could buy, with the effervessence of James's voice and the pureness of his songwriting. This album has it all!!! Live, (NO!! studio overdubs!!!!, {a common trick to fool the punters}, this album is what was played on the night) albeit various nights. If you are the audio lover I think you are, you can't get much better than this live album. James Taylors cool songs, his bands extreme professionalism(deepest sympathy to Carlos Vegas family and friends, I met him once for a few hours and was captivated by his playing and personality, A great one has been lost)and Massenburgs capturing of the moment all combine to make this recording a joy. You will not get better!!!

An excellent Live recording which adds to the performance5
James Taylor at his performing best. This Double CD represents real value for money for both the fan and the newly converted. Some of his best known cuts are presented in the way that only a live performance can deliver - and the ambience of the venue is preserved - something that few live performances manage to achieve.
