CD Description
Fronted by the seriously soulful vocalist Jennifer Nettles,Sugarland is a trio that makes immediately accessible, radio-ready country-pop. Singer/songwriters Kristen Hall and Kristian Bush comprise the other two-thirds of the group, and together they generate a sound that is equal parts backwoods twang, urban-cowgirl glamour, and suburban working-class malaise, a mix that will undoubtedly appeal to all three demographics. TWICE THE SPEED OF LIFE is Sugarland's full-length debut, and it fulfils the promise of its major-label status by delivering the goods in full.
While the crisp production, Nettles's gospel-inflected alto, and Hall and Bush's sweet, multi-part harmonies are what catch the ear on first listen, the secret weapon here is the quality of the songwriting. "Something More" bemoans the dreariness of 9-to-5 life andyearns for transcendence in its memorable, sing-along chorus. "Hello" is a lilting, mid-tempo narrative of an idyllic romance, while "Down in Mississippi (Up to No Good) is the sort of rollicking party anthem tailor-made for wild nights onthe town. In short, Sugarland has all the makings of major country-pop act.
Customer Reviews
Original, Fresh and Keen
Sugarland are the greatest collection of artists to hit the US Bluegrass scene since Nickelcreek. The original songs come from the heart and every experience is song with feeling.
Supporting Reba in Dallas the crowd were happy enough to continue to listen to Sugarland as they were to hear Reba herself.
May they hurry to the UK!
Sugarland come into their own
Twice the speed of life sees well constructed songs and great vocals from the up and coming Sugarland. Those of us who love Gretchen Wilson love Sugarland. The rock edge to solid country provides an up beat album which really gets the feet tapping. Would recommend - this band are going places!
Ditto!
Have to agree completely with dentman above,... me too! This is just a superb album, and i think their best, and one i have never tired off. One of those rare albums that never require you to skip a track. I just cannot say enough about Sugarland and this Twice the Speed of Life. Ive had it for a couple of years now and it has NEVER left my multidisc,... the songs are all so catchy, her voice is amazing, the lyrics.... just gorgeous, and it never leaves its Nashville roots. Its a must for any music fan, especially those who find it hard to get into country music and have never quite found a sound they like then this is it, Sugarland and Twice the Speed of Life will convert you.... for life. Buy it NOW, and enjoy endless listenings!!
