Editorial Reviews
Evening Standard, (Simon Broughton), June 2, 2006
(5 stars) ...hypnotic rhythms and haunting electric guitar solos. One of this year's most refreshing records.
The Guardian, (Robin Denselow) May 19 2006
(4 stars) The best songs, such as Ildeman, mix sturdy electric guitar lines against drums and chanting vocals.
Album Description
Etran Finatawa combine the rich nomadic cultures of the Tuareg and Wodaabe people from the West African country of Niger - a region that for thousands of years has served as a crossroads between the Arabs of North Africa and the sub-Saharan traditions. Combining the polyphonic songs of the Wodaabe people with modern arrangements, Etran Finatawa blend traditional instruments with electric guitars and driving percussion, transporting you to the Sahara home with their powerful and hypnotic sound.
Customer Reviews
One of the Best world musivc releases of 2006
I happen to chance upon this record in Virgin megastore and litened to it and found a fresh and rewarding records. It reminds me of the music of Tinawiren, but better and more rich. Etran Finatwa are a great group with brilliant musicians.
this music is a like the blues from Mali but with more rhythm and more vocal polyphony
Buy this record at all cost you will play it again and again.
