Where's the Carnival?3
This is the 4th major release from Kasey Chambers and a definite move away from her country roots into the mainstream pop/rock arena. Absolutely nothing wrong with that but it was always Kasey's country 'twang' combined with her pop/rock sensibility that gave her such a strong and distinctive sound.
On 'Carnival' Kasey is as vocally strong and emotive as ever and it would be too harsh to suggest that the material is weak but as an overall collection of songs it badly suffers from a predictable AOR production job that drifts it into the realms of blandness.
Kasey should never be labelled 'just another Aussie female singer ' but at times on 'Carnival' she comes too close for comfort.

I thought I might be a little dissappointed listening to this as there were only a few tracks off Wayward Angel that I really liked.
From the opening bars of "colour of a carnival" I was hooked. Every track on this album is very good indeed, Kasey has a new confidence, her vocals seem less "whiny" and the arrangements of the songs are interesting and excellent. The production by her brother Nash is also noticably superior to her other albums. Within a day of playing this , I woke up with the tunes running round my head, it is truly one of the best albums I have heard this year. Buy it you won't be dissappointed.
