Editorial Reviews
CD Description
Boston-based artist Eilen Jewell puts her own beautiful stamp on old country, folk and blues. Her first two albums, Boundary County and Letters from Sinners and Strangers were astonishingly assured efforts, which matched Jewell’s understated yet insightful songs with a rugged blend of Americana styles. “On those albums,” she reflects, “people told me they heard folk, country, western swing, rockabilly, and even jazz…but a part of my roots has been left out up until now.”
With Sea of Tears, Jewell and her longtime band of Jason Beek (drums, harmony vocals), Jerry Miller (electric, acoustic, and steel guitars), and Johnny Sciascia (upright bass) wed her elegantly unflinching songwriting with a rustic, pre-Beatles swagger that encapsulates vintage R&B, Midwestern garage rock, Chicago blues, and early rock and rockabilly, while maintaining the haunting, folk inspired purity that first made her an artist to watch.
"Lovely balance of strident country and rural balladry."--Uncut
"Every track is a gem." *****--Maverick
Customer Reviews
Thank you, Mark Lamarr
Great album. Discovered Eilen Jewell when played by Mark Lamarr on God's Juke Box (there should be an act of Parliament to force everyone to listen to this show as an antidote to the pap that most radio shows/stations play but that's a discussion for a different time and place) ...anyway, great album. The track "Sweet Rose" is just brilliant and the rest aren't far behind.
Music Matters
If you are looking for artists who make music that matters this is well worth checking out.Eilen is an instant listen...you would have to be a musical dead head not to be able to hear the brilliance in this and her previous album. To go leftfield I would also highly recommend 11/11 the latest album from Rodriogo Y Gabriela...a must see live.
Simply the best
