Amazon.co.uk Review
Lemonade And Brownies, the debut album from American frat-rockers Sugar Ray had the band experimenting with a number of styles as they developed their playful, funk-rock hybrid. Influenced by old school hip-hop, hard rock, funk and heavy metal, the album is a collision of crunching guitars, groovy basslines, offbeat samples and juvenile lyrics. The resulting sound is like an updated soundtrack to Animal House, a beer-swilling keg party that's gotten completely out of control, especially on tracks like the punky "Mean Machine", the funky "Iron Mic" and the wonderfully titled "Danzig Needs A Hug". Lemonade And Brownies is good, clean wholesome fun, in a drunken, immature, rock & roll kind of way. --Robert Burrow

This has to be my favourite Sugar Ray album, I don't say this because I'm a snob and think they've sold out with "14:59" and "Sugar Ray" (I don't), I just find it the most listenable and entertaining of all of their albums; despite the fact that it is their most eclectic offering thus far.
"L&B" is a party album from start to finish, kicking off in fine style with the chant along of "Snug Harbour" and ending firmly in the moshpit with the vicious and fuzzed out ode to good times that is "Streaker" (Think early Limp Bizkit without the relationship-gone-wrong obsession).
Between the two you'll find a myriad of styles to entertain and confuse (in a good way) ranging from Sly Stone-esque soul ("Close your breath and hold your eyes") Aerosmith meets Chili Peppers style rock n roll ("Caboose"), hip hop, and outright wierdery.
Coupled to one of the best album covers ever, I was fifteen and firmly under the spell of testosterone when I bought this and will admit it wasn't entirely for the music, and you have a truly fantastic and unique album that's been somewhat over shadowed by their later more chart friendly efforts.
Don't buy this expecting "14:15" or something, buy it and expect to rock until your socks melt and you have an uncontrollable desire to get off with someone.
Yup this is ok
I started listening to shugar ray with 1459 and have worked my way back to this their earlier stuff, far heavier and, in my opinion, better than the newer stuff. The album is a great mix of heavy with a 70's funk track that catches you by surprise. I particularly recomend track 7.
So much greatness on 1 CD
Quite simply, the best Sugar Ray album. I know it depends on tastes, and if u like pop then go for the newer ones. If u like rock, and I mean pure, unadulterated ROCK, then this is one of your favourite albums and you dont even know it yet.
As mentioned, it has slower funky songs, a childish 'Tenacious D-like' drive-in sketch (much better, and weirder), and all the different rock sub-genres. But its the bulk of the album which carries it through. Tracks 1-14 are by far the best, and if u want to hear the rockiest riffs in town, listen to caboose, 10 seconds down. iron mic and mean machine.
Did I mention this album is rock? And that Tenacious D aren't very funny?
P.S. ROCK
