Good pictures, shame about soundtrack !
Very cheap so nothing much to loose. An Italian made film with a terrible soundtrack . Obviously a translation, the narrator was not watching the film as he read the script so delivery is often in the wrong place. Nor did he have much idea about what he was reading or knew how to pronounce the names. This gives a disjointed presentation with dialogue being delivered either after the subject picture has gone or before it arrives. Perhaps this does not matter to many but it annoys. As a result I watch it with the sound turned down. That way it is a good and very inexpensive way of revisiting "The world's best museum with the worlds best exhibits and the worst presentation" (although they are getting better). Worth having just to revisit the museum although it is a shame about the soundtrack.
A brilliant introduction to the museum
The price for this dvd was so small I wondered if it would be worth having but I need not have worried. This dvd really does take you on a tour of the museum, adding in little bits of background information to set the scene for some of the pieces. For example the tiny statue of King Khufu is featured and also information regarding the great pyramid at Giza, which was his burial site. Most of the major works are there, beautifully pictured and carefully explain. Going through all the sections it did seem odd that King Tut only got the odd mention with glimpses of his treasures, but he has a whole chapter to himself and you see all the wonderful artefacts. I have visited the Cairo Museum more than once and would say this dvd does it proud. If you want a taster before you go - buy this.
