Product Description

This is a photographic book following the River Severn from its source on
Plynlymon to the salty waters of the Bristol Channel.

The agenda photographer Chris Morris set himself was to use the river's
culture and history as the basis for his images. Thus as well as a set of
luminous riverscapes many of the photographs have stories to tell, of
fishing, industrial history and trade, for the Severn was the coutry's
premier transport route.

The extended picture captions are amplified by text at the beginning of
each of five chapters.

Editorial Reviews

Canal & Riverboat Mgazine
..beautiful, evocative and lovingly photographed.

From the Publisher
This is a follow up to Chris Morris's well received books on
the great engineers Telford and Brunel. His interest in industrial history
inevitably shows through in this portfolio of photographs but does not
overtake the many other aspects of life on Britain's longest river.

From the Author
The River Severn has a fascinating history. In use as a trade
route since Roman times it became the country's most important trade route
before giving way to canal transport. My 'portrait' reflects many historic
aspects of the river as well as covering modern day activities.
