Product Description

God s Purpose in Israel E W Bullinger How important is this subject to Gentile Christians of the 21st Century? If the importance of a subject can be measured by the amount of space given to it by God in the Scriptures, then this must be one of the most important of all subjects. The Bible is filled with a revelation of His purpose concerning the people of Israel, the land of Palestine, and the city of Jerusalem. This purpose is illustrated in history, type and prophecy. However, God s purpose in Israel goes further back than Israel and his twelve sons. It really starts with the call of Abraham . But a purpose must have an existence prior to its manifestation or revelation! And so the author goes right back to the beginning, and finds the first revelation of this purpose in Genesis 3.

About the Author
Ethelbert W. Bullinger D.D. (1837-1913) was a direct descendent of Heinrich Bullinger, the great Swiss reformer who carried on Zwingli s work after the latter had been killed in war. E. W. Bullinger was brought up a Methodist but sang in the choir of Canterbury Cathedral in Kent. He trained for and became an Anglican minister before becoming Secretary of the Trinitarian Bible Society. He was a man of intense spirituality and made a number of outstanding contributions to biblical scholarship and broad-based evangelical Christianity. These writings on God s Purpose in Israel originally appeared in Things to Come 100 years ago, long before Israel were restored in the land (1947), and even before the Balfour Declaration (1917). Such was his faith in what the Bible taught, he was convinced that if God was not to break His promises, Israel would be restored and would, again, have a place in God s purposes. Whether that time has yet arrived is doubtful. However it is easier for us today to accept the destiny of Israel as declared in the Bible than it was for such people like Bullinger. Although written about 100 years ago, this study is as vibrant today, perhaps even more so with the Middle East situation. Bullinger s last book, reflecting his mature views, was The Foundations of Dispensational Truth, a reprint of which is available from the Open Bible Trust
