The Force (Orb) is strong with this one...
This is a compliation of two awesome games. R-Type originally released in arcades in 1987 and the appropriately named R-Type 2 released in arcades in 1989.

Although the graphics are now dated they were brilliant in their day. Anyone whose ever owned a 16 bit machine will appreciated them, although 'only' 2D they are very good. But the gameplay is what matters and these 2 games are some of the best side scrolling shooters ever made. Brilliantly designed and fiendishly tricky levels with though plasma eating bosses at the end of them, much joy is to be had playing these games.

Be warned though R-Type 2 is hard, but if you are reading this you probably are a hardcore gamer and will relish the challenge as well as apreciate the classic old school gameplay.

Truly Classic
If you remember these 80's classics from when they originally came out, you'll know how huge they were at the time. Well, I'm glad to say that the passage of time has been kind to them. The gameplay is so well thought out that you will have to play certain parts again & again until you learn exactly where the safe spots on the screen are & where enemies appear from. This might sound tedious, but the action is so enthralling that you will be drawn into the game & determined to finish it.
On their release, both R-Types pushed the boundries of Graphics, Sound and action. As a result, they feel more like games from the early - mid 90's & still look & sound good (the water effects are as cool as ever)

These games will keep you entertained for a long time. R-Type 2 is almost impossible to complete without using cheats & I can play level 2 of R-Type again & again without ever getting bored.

These games set the standard for all scrolling shoot-em-ups.
