Synopsis
Chava (Carlos Padilla) is an eleven-year-old boy in 1980s civil war-torn El Salvador who is faced with the difficult choice of fighting for the government or the peasant rebels. Chava knows that once he turns twelve, he will be conscripted to fight the government's battle against the rebels. In addition, he has to find work to help his single mother. Chava attempts to survive the conflicting pressures of his warring country. Innocent Voices is based on the childhood of screenwriter Oscar Torres and is a moving tale of one boy who has his innocence corrupted by opposing armies seeking to recruit him.

Customer Reviews

Brilliant, but not a 12 cert !5
There are a few scenes in this true story that I feel are step too far for a twelve year old to watch: The conscription scene, and parts of the battles in the townships, were just too stark to allow my kids to see.
Most disturbing was the scene by the river of 11 or 12 year olds having to kneel and accept their executions.
I felt the film to be sincere, and a valuable picture of the madness and horror of war, told by an innocent voice. All this was carefully balanced by humour and humanity.
It would have been good to balance the console culture we inhabit by allowing the kids to watch it, but they'll have to wait until they're 15, I think.

Whoooahhh5
After reading the first customers comments I felt compelled to write my first review, it is the melodrama and horrific subject matter of this film that makes it so incredibly memorable, this is easily the best film of 2005, poignant, funny, serious, thought provoking, tragic, this is a great film and one that can't be missed.

Innocent Voices5
This film is a hart warming film, which brings a tear to your eye.
A hard shocking film that brings the watcher into the live of a innocent boy, who has to deal with death and danger everyday.
It makes it even harder to think about the fact that this is all bassed on true events, not made up by a play writter.
It was a hard film to watch, as it was played so well, I would recommend this to everybody.
It's the kind of film that makes you think twice about moaning able the weather and many more stupid things.
