Wonderful Reminder Of My Youth !!!5
Contains all the Hits from this wonderfullt innovative band. They really did inspire the look of people such as Michael Jackson (Leee John in particular with his wonderful flamboyant style). For originality and flair that shaped a generation, in my view Imagination are right up there with Adam and the Ants and Spandau Ballet. They were also around at a time when such artists as Shannon (remember "Let The Music Play"?) and Fonda Rae. Thgis is a definite "must have" for anyone with a half-de4cent 80s collection!!

'Not Far From A Definitive Best Of'5
When Imagination and 'Body Talk' first exploded onto the 80's soul scene, for a few years thereafter the combination of the group and their producers Jolly and Swain proved as powerful a hit making combination as Lennon and McCartney, Morrissey and Marr and Jagger and Richards. You may well laugh at this statement but I was working in a record shop in Hastings in those days and there was always a buzz about the new Imagination single. In those days, Soul and R&B artists were very much singles artists - you could rarely give away their albums. Imagination did not fall into this category and we sold loads of 'Body Talk' and especially 'In The Heat Of The Night' (their best album).

Wisely, this collection focusses its attention on those early years of the band and pretty much all their best tracks from their golden period are here. Personally, I could not accept a 'best of' without 'The Last Time' but that is a minor quibble seeing as the groups best ever ballad 'I'll Always Love You (but don't look back)' has been included - something that is sadly unusual. Also of interest, is the inclusion of two non-Imagination songs! 'Soul Street' and 'Backtrackin'' are actually by Jolly and Swain and were released as an unsuccessful single 'back in the day'. Still, they are in the style of the group and may have been included here as a bonus for collectors of the 'R&B' sound - 'its got to be about the product', remember!

Don't think for a minute that Imagination never made another good record after say 1985 - they were just never as innovative or unique again. With declining sales and the failure of the 'Sunshine' single, The 'Trilogy' album was shelved. Thereafter, most of the bands latter years were spent 'searching' for a producer with a 'sound' that could bring back the 'Music And Lights'. Sadly, they never found one but with this collection and a hatful of hits under their belts they have left us quite a legacy...

turn up the bass5
go for a cruise down amnesia drive and enjoy the massive contrast between the deep fretless/synth bass and the pliers-in-the-trouser-pocket falsetto vocal. Catchy pop tunes from out of the way-back machine. Groovey.
