Very much a solid foundation course
Very comprehensive. Prospective purchasers should be aware that it is precisely what it sets out to be i.e. a true foundation course assuming no previous knowledge. If you already have some engineering skills then a large proportion of the material (certainly the first 1/3rd) will be of little use. Large sections of the latter parts also cover the basics in some depth. Although there are many useful tips & techniques in the book, they can be difficult to 'dig-out'.
None of this is critisism - just the opposite. To quote that current phrase.. 'It does exactly what it says on the tin!'. A superb introductory text for the complete novice. Just feel it may not be ideal for those with some previous skills
The one you can't afford to be without
As a relative beginner with no engineering background this book was recommended to me. I would not be without this book now and have found no aspect of the hobby which it doesn't address in a clear no-nonsense manner. So far every tip/trick he suggests has worked a treat - this one's my bible.
Covers all aspects of model engineering metalwork.
This book covers most aspects of model engineering ranging from establishing and fitting out a workshop to installing tools and how to use them. It also covers properties of metals, heat treatments, jointing methods and machining. I have found it both useful and easily read and understood. Recommended.
