Editorial Reviews

Synopsis
A remake of the 1958 horror about a brilliant scientist who develops a machine that molecularly transports objects in seconds. Inadvertently the machine turns him into a fly, with incredible agility, and super strength. But the metamorphosis also brings insanity as an insatiable appetite ensues.

THE FLY GOES BLU5
The fly is a horror classic from the 80s that deserves its reputation as a well told, well acted gore shocker.

No amount of description here can do justice to this film that contains just about every level of horror and suprise. On a deeper level Cronenberg the Director gets his Lovecraft flag flying, as our imaginations run riot as to how far the fusion of human and fly will go.

Blu Ray
Although I had read good reviews of the picture quality I found that the ordinary bits of the film look just that - ordinary. However it is the incredible make up and gory effects that pay dividends in blu ray. You can see just how much that department has put in to lift the film to its classic status.
The picture is devoid of noise, has good colour and is clear. Further Jeff Goldblum together with the imaginative design and makeup transforms himself into a horrific monster.

All in all worth the blu ray for the extra colour and clarity and for those that want to 'enjoy' and appreciate this horror classic.

Great5
Well the movie is excellent. It's a really nasty horror flick with an excellent storyline & is well acted & directed. I find it frustrating when I read reviews from people expecting all bluray movies to look like a 2009 summer blockbuster, this was made over 20 years ago. Bluray is not all about sharp, saturated looking picures but about showing the movie as close as possible to how the director intended it. Movies are highly compressed from the origional print which leads to a loss in quality, Bluray disc's are huge which means far less compression & much higher quality. That's what bluray is about. This movie looks fantastic for its age, I'm sure as good as it looked in the cinema at the time, Maybe better. This version is presented in Full screen 16.9 aspect ratio, no black bars.

Modern Day Horror Classic5
What should be say about this new interpretation of the classic "The Fly" with Vincent Price?
Maybe that this here is one of the best Horror movies of all time: great plot, great actors and for the time it was released some of the most awesome SFXs.
This is not a fun splatter movie, but a movie about lost identities having enough splatter scenes to even satisfy gore fans.

Considering the age of the material it has a great picture and sound quality, but maybe the DVD will do the same job.

So if you like horror movies just a little bit, this masterpiece is definitely a must buy.
