Great book for beginners :)
i bought this book to help me learn japanese as i was a complete beginner, its so easy to understand, all the explanations and examples are really clear. It also has the vocab used at the bottom of each page, and grammer explanations at the beginning of each chapter which helps a lot. There is also a CD with it and lots of exercises to help remember what you have read, this again is very useful.
I also feel that it actually teaches you the language as it is spoken in japan, as it tells you both polite and casual forms. very practical.
would definately recommend this to other beginners.
good for complete beginner
this book is very good for the complete beginner , it helps to learn the pronunciation and some basic grammar.
Good book but you should consider the kana version
I bought this book as the recommended text for an evening class. The of the book is very well organized. Everything is labeled in romaji for easy reading (eg. "watashi").
The only problem is that this book became out of pace as soon as I had learnt all the hiraganas, which is totally a matter of memorizing. By then the class had only gone through 1/4 of the chapters! I had to sell this one and buy the kana version. If I was better informed I would have bought the kana version to start with!
