Blurb on the back is.....
With just one touch, Jessa Bellamy can see anyone's darkest secret's, thanks to whoever tampered with her genes. What she doesn't know is that a biotech company called GeneHance has discovered her talent, and intends to kill her and harvest her DNA, When GeneHance is poised to strike, Gaven Matthias is forced to take action. After months of tracking Jessa, he abducts her himself so he can protect her in his underground fortress. Matthias tries to explain what she is and how she can protect others like her, but Jessa has a hard time believing the one man whose secrets she cannot read. She senses he's hiding a terrible truth, and yet his touch ignites a passion she's never known. As a monstrous assassin closes in and forces them on the run, Jessa will have to find another way to discover whether Matthais is her greatest ally.... or her deadliest enemy.

A fresh spinoff from the Darkyn series, well written I enjoyed it & looking forward to the next release, 'Dreamveil'.

Shadowlight - An introduction to a new adventure5
This is the first in the new Kyndred Series from Lynn Viehl, author of highly successful Darklyn Series book.
Although several characters from that series appear in the book the main story introduces us to the Kyndred. Individuals who have DNA in their genes that gives them a talent - much like those of the Darklyn - but without the need for blood and to avoid the sun. Each of their Talents expands when they are fatally injures but survive by healing like the Darklyn.
In this story one woman who tries to use her talent for good is hunted by one group who want to take her talent meets a man who is trying to save her life.
Whilst staying under the modern day information radar net, they dance around each other going from distrust to love; they are hunted by more than one enemy.
An underlying story which gives a two thousand year tap root to the past adds extra mystery to an exciting adventure.
My main problem with this story is a common one with books to introduce new series - The need to put in as much information as possible - It can at times overload the story line. I went and got a cup of coffee and then continued reading.
Overall I loved the book and look forward to the next book in the series Dreamveil due out next year. Print copy of this book is on my wish list.

Kyndred #14
She used to be Minerva Starret. Then she was killed. Now, ten years later, she is Jessa Bellamy. With one touch she can see anyone's darkest secrets. Jessa calls her ability Shadowlight. She keeps her ability totally secret and uses it in her job. Her company screens new employees for other businesses. Her ability makes the company a success. Yet no matter how solitary she is, no matter how hard she strives to stay out of the spotlight and blend in with everyone else, Jessa's ability is eventually noticed.

Jonah Genaro's company, GenHance, Inc., is a front for his darker work. The public believes the company is searching for the cures of genetic birth defects. The truth is that Genaro is searching for the orphan babies that were used in experiments back in the 1980's. These kids had abilities encoded in their cells deliberately. As each person is located, Genaro has them taken, preferably dead, so the company can harvest those abilities. Genaro sends Bradford Lawson to take Jessa and bring her in.

Gaven Matthias learns when and where Lawson plans to kidnap Jessa. Just before Lawson takes Jessa, Matthias cripples him and rescues Jessa. But Matthias cannot release Jessa. Genaro's company has power everywhere. Jessa will make it on to the Top Ten Most Wanted list within twenty-four hours. Matthias must take her to an underground fortress and keep her there until she realizes he is one of the good guys. Lawson hunts them, seeking revenge against Jessa, and he is no longer human.

**** FOUR STARS! A good beginning to the series. This story is not as suspenseful as its Darkyn universe counterparts, yet the flavors remain pretty much the same and decent foundation is forged for the Kyndred series. Lucan and Samantha, Darkyn, have secondary roles to play, but are kept out of the loop and are mainly witnesses to events. The ending, of course, is left wide open; however, Jessa and Matthias's main tale is tied up nicely. I did not feel cheated or disappointed as I finished reading the last page. ****
