Almost Useless
This is the first time I've written any kind of review on something I've bought on Amazon, but this atlas is so awful that I felt I had to pass on a few comments to anyone else considering buying an American road atlas.
I am planning a fly-drive holiday in the States later this month, and wanted a road atlas to help with the planning, and for my navigator to use while we're driving.
The maps in this book are REALLY difficult to use for this purpose. They are mostly one state per double page; this is ok for the smaller states, where the scale is quite large, but for larger states, it's almost impossible to see the detail properly. I am only in my early 30s and I don't wear glasses, and I have good eyesight. But even with a bright light and a large magnifying glass, I still struggled to read the names and see the road systems on the states that I happen to be visiting. It will be possible, but difficult, to plan my trip - but most definitely IMPOSSIBLE for a car passenger to use for navigation whilst travelling.
Also, each double page has a state's map on, in alphabetical order. This means that if you drive over the border from Wisconsin to Iowa, you have to flip between a page at the very end of the book, and one at the front, unlike most road atlases I know, where each page is a continuation of the adjacent land area.
A complete waste of money. I hope I can find a better one before my trip.
Rubbish...
I purchased this atlas prior to a 3 Week fly drive around the North East of the USA, it is very difficult to read, and having a state to a 2 page spread simply does not work, the USA is too big for this format. Get larger scale maps, and take the Sat Nav option to prevent family rows!
Pass me a microscope
I bought this to replace an ageing National Geographic Atlas of the US (still available I note) to help with long distance drives across North America.
Poorly printed on what appears to be newsprint its awful! Virtually impossible to read because everything is too small, and only really visible under a very strong light. Its so bad we've never used it and I'm currently about to go back and buy another copy of our old NG atlas.
