Customer Reviews

Great book but poor printing....5
A serious but readable book for chess players intent on gaining the edge in the endgame, this is a thorough guide to that phase of the game by a top instructor. The word 'manual' could give the impression that this is a reference book, but it is written in an instructive manner and suitable for self-study. Beginners might find it a bit too dense, in which case you could try Pandolfini's Endgame Course as a neat introduction.

One complaint; I was disappointed with the quality of the printing. The essential points are in blue text, a nice touch, but the ink is faint and hard to read. Given the size of the book and the fact it is meant for longterm study, it's a non-trivial point which the printers should attend to whenever they do another print run.

Great Book! A must have for every Club Player!5
This is a Great Book! A must have for every serious club player.
All the important endings are collected and presented in a very clear and progressive way.
I like the concept of the blue diagrams the positions that you "must know". I agree there is a lot but with such manual you can measure the gap between amateurs and Grand-Masters even though I am sure that there is Grand-Masters who ignore most of these positions!!
However, in order to achieve progress you have to do the exercises given after every section and not look for the solutions provided at the end of the book.
I have many of Dvoretsky's books and they are all great stuff! However, if you want to buy only one buy this one!!
