Product Description

Miami's best-dressed serial killer is back and on the prowl, at least he would be if he could shake off his permanent shadow. Ever since their paths first crossed, Sergeant Doakes hasn't let Dexter Morgan out of his sight. Dexter may well be the Miami PD's blood-spatter analyst, but Sgt. Doakes has a pretty good idea of how Dex likes to spend his free time and he's determined to catch him in the act. Dex hasn't killed in months and is getting twitchy. To throw Doakes off his scent, he's spending more time with Rita, his girlfriend. But no matter how many cosy nights they spend in front of the TV, Doakes is still watching. Then a body turns up, horribly mutilated and barely alive. To trap the torturer, Doakes and Dexter will have to work together, if they can trust each other. It's a devil's pact and one of them will have to be the bait...

Cracking "mindless" read5
I bought 5 books for my yearly fortnight holiday to the sun. 4 of these books were by Arthur C Clarke and I suddenly realised I should get one more book just in case I got bored of Clarke. I picked up this book off the shelf on the strength of the front cover itself, something I know shouldn't be done, but I was in a rush. When I got home I had a closer look and groaned when I realised it was a sequel. So, with the first book missing I travelled off to Turkey and started on my Clarke Odyssey. After just 2 of his books I got bored and decided to give DDD a go.
I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to get into the character and all knowledge that was required from the previous book was supplied through excellent writing.
I got so into the story and the character that I read all 300 pages in one day, something I don't think I've ever done with a book before. Admittedly there are a few boring parts where you want Dexter to get back to what he's good at.
As someone who has little time to read books when not on holiday, I can reccomend this to anyone who wants to read a relatively short book on holiday without thinking too much. Excellent characters really bring this book above others in the serial killer/crime genre.

DARLING DEVILISH DEXTER...5
With Dexter Morgan, the author has created one of the most memorable characters around. Moreover, he has managed to make the reader really like Dexter, no mean feat, given the fact that Dexter is a serial killer, albeit one who only offs bad people.

With this sequel to "Darkly Dreaming Dexter", the author continues Dexter's saga. Still working as a blood splatter expert for the Miami police department, Dexter is spending quite a bit of time with his girlfriend, Rita, and her two kids. He is simply trying to fit in as best he can, knowing his own inner demons. Meanwhile, his nemesis, Sergeant Doakes, continues to hound Dexter, engaging in a cat and mouse game that effectively curtails Dexter from exercising his secret vocation.

Opportunity knocks when a crazed psychopath begins kidnapping and hideously mutilating people in an unimaginable way. Dexter's sister Deborah finds herself connected to the case, and Dexter finds himself intrigued by this cunning psychopath whose technique is so fiendish as to leave even Dexter breathless. Inadvertently, this psychopath will end up doing Dexter a solid.

Written with sly humor, I enjoyed this second Dexter book even more than the first. With a fascinating plot, an ingenious psychopath that is terrorizing Miami, and some more insight into what makes Dexter tick, I am totally hooked on this fictional character.

Great stuff for book two4
I enjoyed reading this, although I did like the first one more. This book is really getting to know Dexter, rather than his 'dark passenger' I think. The crime is gruesome and not much is left to the imagination.

Brilliantly written, I look forward to reading the third one - almost immediately as I want to have read them before the television series starts next week!

A great writer, a great character and a great plot.
