Customer Reviews

a disappointing book2
Although many students find this to be THE definitive book on biochemistry I am inclined to disagree. It does contain all the essential information that I have wanted to read up on but I find it to be dull in style. The black and white text does not do justice to the numerous diagrams and I find the layout generally poor. Finally, I am rather displeased that it has taken so long for a new edition to be published....many of my friends have to wait until December to obtain this new edition....by this time they will have completed the basic biochemistry that this book sets out to deal with.

Excellent accurate material for a brief review of subject5
I reccomend this book to all foriegn doctors who are preparing for the USMLE. The American students will also find this and excellent review guide to brush-up their biochemistry even weeks before the boards. It is well tailored to the requirements of first and second year medical students. The book also provides conceptual explanations unlike many other texts, which merely relate the facts and attempt to support them with petty statistical figures. The illustrations are tastefully done; are almost self-explanatory, are accurately placed and appropriately sized.

Not a bad book at all...4
I am currently doing medicine, and used this book for Biochem. The book is very well organised, and the layout is excellent, with bold writing and clear diagrams. Another useful feature is a summary section at the end which is very useful for revision, or a quick reference when time is short. The only one slight downfall is that there are a few in depth biochemical topics missing, but these can be found on the internet. So all in all I would say this is definatly a book worth considering.
