Theology not Apology from Rev Wilson5
Nancy Wilson is a leading member of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches, a Christian demonination founded with and reaching beyond the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered communities. Over 300 MCC congregations worship in 19 countries around the world.

Nancy has pastored several MCC congregations, most recently serving as the Senior Pastor of MCC Los Angeles, the denomination's "parent" Church.

In this book Nancy does not attempt to apologise or offer justification for lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered folk. He belief that these communities (of which she is a member) are valued children of God has been so strongly confirmed in her years of ministry that the issue does not arise.

The purpose of this book appears, to me, to be the development of a theology from her experiences ministreing within these communities. Just as God has been revealed through the life experiences of the Old Testament Isrealites and countless other communities too, Rev Wilson believes that much can be learned through the witness of LGBT folk and the reality of God in their lives.

She uses the concept of an "LGBT Tribe" to explain her ideas that much of what LGBT folk have to offer are wonderful and irreplaceable gifts from God. This may be the most controversial part for some. While I can not speak for her, I suspect that the notion of "Tribe" is used as a metaphor but one which becomes tantalisingly real at some points in its development.

This is a moving, exciting and uplifting book. LGBT folk, Christian and non-Christian, will find it an aid to the liberation of our communities. Christians, LGBT and non-LGBT, will find it an aid in their journey with God.
