Most two to three-year-old children enjoy counting books and here is one they will love. This jolly book with bright bold illustrations features a whole host of animals who all help mother hen find her lost chicks. Inevitably this means there is plenty of opportunity for animal noises as well as counting chicks making this book all the more fun to read. The farmyard search is presided over by wise old owl who counts the chicks on her wing feathers as they appear one by one. When she reaches eight, mother hen remembers that she only had four chicks to begin with and at the same time a cry of "I've lost my goslings goes up from Mother Goose". Of course, that is the source of the extra "chicks" and in the end all the babies, chicks and goslings are restored to their mothers ... but for how long? About the Author
Sally Grindley lives in Cheltenham. She has been involved with children's books nearly all her working life, first as editor of the children's book club Books for Children and for almost as long as a children's author. This is Sally's sixth novel for Bloomsbury. Spilled Water won a Smarties Gold Medal as well as other regional awards such as the Lincolnshire Young People's Award.
