Product Description

This book has proved so popular that it has now been published in its second, revised and expanded edition. There are now 260 pages and 133 illustrations. Three new chapters enhance the value. One is on considerations of the Axis, one about Tango Zen and a third is about the author's experiences of a trip to Buenos Aires in 2005.

What you get is the most readable, comprehensive dissection of Tango, as danced socially all over the world. The author has a clear grasp of what works and what doesn't, with explanations drawn from his own experiences as a student of numerous teaching styles. Of all the books about Tango, this is the one that helps.

Editorial Reviews

Marie Morrin Tango Times Dublin
This book may yield many useful insights for experienced dancers, but certainly deserves a place on the passionate beginner’s bookshelf.

Alex Krebs -Tango Teacher, Portland Oregon March 2004
Nice -- like a readable version of someone's tango diary.

A Beginner
It shows not only 'what' and 'how' but 'why' one dances Tango.

A dance book that oozes humour5
Having struggled for months to get to grips with the Tango, I found this book made everything clear in easy understandable stages.

Still not a great dancer but at least I know now what I ned to do to improve my technique and timing. Understanding the dance and its history has help enormously and David Turner's book provides clear and simple instructions on how to perform this fantastic dance.

Dancing books tend to be dry and humourless but not this one. It is full of interest and fun and held my interest throughout. Well done. A gem of a book for all who aspire to dance at any level.

A helpful and fascinating accompaniment to classes5
I have owned this book for a year or so and still haven't completely read it. As I attend regular classes and milongas I find this book is extremely useful to read in chunks or by chapter at a time, rather than reading straight through. The author has obviously experienced the same frustrations as I have during the class/milonga and, as a leader, it is particularly re-assuring to know that! However, it provides an extremely useful collection of ideas to work on at the next practica. It's possibly just like tango itself: a never-ending journey of discovery. I'm not sure if it's that useful to complete beginners or those who are not taking classes.

Everything I need to know about tango, it's in there.5
I am amazed at how Dr. Dave Turner managed to collect and present in his book such vast amount of information about tango, which sometimes can be subject to fantasy and even misunderstanding.

As tango dance instructor, especially non-Argentine born, I find this book is a valuable reference material. From origin of tango to the latest scoops of milonga (tango dance) scenes in Buenos Aires and from different styles of dance to variety of dance steps with detailed descriptions and clear illustrations, I can find everything I need to know in order to appreciate the complex and intriguing world of tango dance. Thank you.
