Manufacturer's Description
With its champagne bubble back pattern and sensuous curves, the Samsung SM2333HD wide screen monitor with 16:9 aspect ratio, has a built in DTV Tuner and invisible speakers and invites you to enter a world where entertainment comes alive. Premium design which looks like a crystal glass with variety of colour (Rose Black, Emerald Black and Sapphire Black) gives an emotional touch to the user.
An extraordinary contrast ratio means a crystal clear picture every time. How can we make 10000:1 dynamic contrast? The monitor adjust its brightness and gamma of each frame and optimises the contrast between frames. Bright image: higher backlight with gamma control. Dark image: lower backlight with gamma control.
With 2 HDMI, it can be connected to a variety of AV devices such as a game console, DVD player, camcorder, home theatre as well as computers with high resolution contents such as 1080P.With the Colour Effect function, you can enjoy the picture with your favourite photographic effect. The monitor supports 4 colour effects: grayscale, green, aqua and sepia.
The built-in digital TV tuner is an ideal solution for users who want to watch TV while working on a PC. With DVB enjoy multi-channel Freeview in various areas such as your office, living room or hotel.
The Samsung SM2333HD employs innovative power saving techniques, to save the environment and to save you money. In DPMS (Digital Power Management System) mode , the monitor uses less than 1W in stand-by mode. Auto power on/off function: 732N plus /932B plus can turn the power on and off automatically if the monitor detects the DPMS mode.
For flexibility, there is a customised key, where the function is preset by the user’s preferences. There are 4 options to select (MagicBright, MagicColour, Colour Effect and Image Size).

Wonderful flexibility
Firstly, if you do decide to get this, shop around, prices go quite near £200. I've got this hooked up to a macbook for use in video editing, but have also had a go with a set-top box, ps3 and dvd player.
This television is bargainous, because it can do so much. An RF input for television, DVI/VGA for monitor needs, component video, optical audio out, and two HDMI's for everything else (one of those hdmi's is in a flap in the side though). The television accepts 1080p and although I only work with 720p video it looks very nice. As a side note 1080p makes for some very readable screen text.
The TV of course comes with settings for the electronics shop, very overblown, but once all of the dynamic contrast and blocking filters are off, it's a very accurate tv. Bad sources will look worse on this, the resizing engine isn't the most advanced, but a well put together DVD will appreciate the extra resolution above sd.
One initial quibble I had was that the power went off whenever I moved it. However once you're past deciding where to put it, it's very reliable. I personally secured it with some (probably inadvisable) blu-tack. Also the included stand will not tilt forwards from vertical, only back. If the shelf you're putting it on is higher than your viewing area you're going to need a bracket of some kind.
But it comes down to this, the gamut is pretty wide, colours accurate. blacks are nice and black, response is fast, and it can play the highest quality sources currently available pixel to pixel. Low energy use is a bonus. You will get a lot more for more, particularly the backlight isn't as even as perhaps I'd like, but I was so surprised by how accurate and lifelike this monitor can be.
p.s. the speakers are rubbish.
Nice piece of machinery
Good points - I must agree with the previous Review as far as I have tried the many gizzmo's. I find that the monitor acts as a great tv, which is what I mainly bought it for. The menu is easy to follow, and you are in control, My dvd and vcr works a treat through it, I also tuned into many more Freeview channels than I have had before. The samsung is also a very nice looking tv-monitor. The non reflective screen is also a boon to me, as I cannot see the reflections of the window's on the screen.
Bad points- The speakers are the worst, I can honestly say, I have ever come across, they sound like a demented bee in a bean tin, but to be fair most small tv's suffer from this problem.I knew this to be a problem before I purchased it, after reading other reviews. To combat this shortcoming, I obtained a pair of pc sp
eakers before it arrived, plugged them into the h/phone jack, and WOW, it's now better than my big Sony. the speakers I used are sold on Amazon, Creative Inspire T10's.
All in all a great set, buy it.
Nice picture, shame about the sound
Intalled by Sky Engineer on our kitchen wall and looks great. Sound is poor, though so beware if this matters to you. If looks and picture are everything it'll be great for you.
