A Huge and Shockproof portable drive pounded with Autobackup SW!!!
Hi there,
I decided to buy this buffalo ministation from amazon when it was £79.99. It was a really good deal as free delivery applied on this product as well. In fact, I bought it in July 2008 leaving a couple of months of testing and quality assuring during the time I was back home in Thailand to make sure my review is fair and useful. My opinion on this ministation is as follows:
** Appearance **
* Great shockproof feature with a wrap-around cable. Very handy for laptop users.
* Robust and good quality case
* Extra DC port for insufficient USB port power supply, with cable included
** Performance **
* A speed of file transfer using TurboUSB software supplied with a drive is a benefit for large movie files. Even though it is not noticeable when a file size is small.
* A backup routine works like a charm as this product comes with "Memeo-backup" software. You simple set up a configuration only once, in a very user-friendly way of course and it runs automatically every time you connect a device. I find this software as a bonus for the whole package and fully make this drive worth owning :)
* An encryption program is also included in this package. Highly confidential data now become unreadable without a decryption key. This is also another bonus :)
*** Problem ?!?!
- I have no idea why my desktop computer sometimes cannot detect my drive. Here is the reason why I give it 4 stars rather than 5. However, my laptop computer could see it every time. I am skeptical about my desktop setting or something like that.
- only one rarely occurred problem for me :)
In short, Buffalo Ministation is the answer for those who have been searching for a handy ultra-portable hard drive, sturdy, capable of fast transfer, auto-backup on-the-fly and worth of every single pence of your money.
Thank you very much for reading my (rather long)review :) Hope you find it useful and informative.
Good luck on your decision :)

How Cool
I recently purchased this 320GB Ministation and boy was I blown away, the data transfer is far quicker than anything I've used previously, compact and the case is really shockproof. I should know my son decided to throw it down the stairs 2 days after I got it. Plugged it in and it still worked.
Really Satisifed.
neat little drive
Just bought this a couple of days ago and am quite satisfied with it.
Given that it is one of the cheaper drives available, it provides a good balance of capacity and functionality. It really is plug-and-play and I had no problems using it as a backup drive on my min computer or my netbook. I have also used it to record TV programs via my SatBox. All without any glitches. The Memeo AutoBackup software that comes with it is an added bonus. Installs in 3 minutes and provides a good automated backup solution.
What prevented me from giving it 5 stars ? One, it feels a bit cheap, being all plastic. Two, the power it draws from one USB port is often not sufficient to run the drive properly, so the provided secondary USB cable is needed quite often to provide more power from a second USB port. Might a problem with my PC & SatBox, but makes it a little bit more cumbersome to work with the drive.
