Not What I Expected4
“Mercenaries” contains 3 short stories by Angela Knight.

Trinity
Trinity only has one week left before her 25th birthday, when she’ll be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Approaching a female mercenary, she begs for help. She is advised to speak to the captain, Nathan August, a man who suggests Trinity pay for her transportation by sexually servicing both him and his second in command, Sebastian. Knowing she’ll end up dead if she stays grounded, innocent little Trinity agrees to a role neither man never thought she’d accept - Sebastian gives it a month before Nathan proposes.

The Thrall
3 centuries ago when interstellar travel was discovered, many groups decided to create their own Utopia. One shipload of colonists with a taste for BDSM landed and created their own world of domination and submission, a name which morphed into Bedesem over the centuries. Sebastian is working undercover on this world, pretending to be a submissive in order to free the kidnapped son of the Dominor. However he finds acting submissive to his new mistress Zaria a challenge, made more difficult when he realises Zaria would rather be dominated than dominate.

Claiming Cassidy
Cassidy crash lands her ship following an engagement with the Dharani, isolated colonists with the reputation of being the deadliest killers in human space. Major Rune Alrigo follows her to the planet to finish his kill, determined to destroy the brilliant warrior who has fought so well. He is amazed that his enemy is a female and his Tribeship instinct to revere all women wars with his obligation to kill her. Yet such a woman would breed magnificent warriors and would certainly make an invaluable addition to his tribe. To force Cassidy would be useless; instead Rune plans to capture, disarm, court and seduce.

I have read 2 other short stories by Angela Knight and thoroughly enjoyed them; however I found “Mercenaries” not up to my expected high standards. This is not due to bad writing, but rather the story lines themselves. I’m not a fan of D & S and was left wondering why I’d purchased this book. To quote Ms Knight herself “fans of my Berkley novels will find “Trinity” and “The Thrall” a little more hard-edged” - believe me; she’s not wrong! That said, this book still gets 4 stars – the sex scenes are HOT!!

Near perfect Erotica, with a great storyline.4
This was the first of Angela Knights books i ever read, and i have to say that i was very pleasantly surprised - if not just a teensy bit shocked. The sexual content is very strong, with a domination/submission theme running through each novella. In writing Mercenaries Knight has taken a detour from the usual sci-fi / paranormal romance formula. The sex scenes are gritty, explicit, and extremely well written. That's not to say that it is devoid of any romance, the novellas each end in the usual romantic fashion - it's just not the overkill of prose, longing looks and general cheesiness that is associated with an awful lot of the genre which is aimed at the female market. And i for one think it's about time. Providing you are not of a 'sensitive' nature, i highly recommend Mercenaries. Jane's Warlord is also another excellent novel by the same author, although slightly more conventionally written, it's still extremely steamy.

HOT,HOT.HOT!!5
