GOOD HOLIDAY READ
I quite liked this book. It was ideal for a holiday read, although it felt slightly as if the author had lost interest towards the end and rushed to a conclusion. I thought the chases were fun and all the locations well-drawn.
Passion by Louise Bagshawe
I loved this book! From the moment I started reading it I could not put it down. Its a real page turner, a cross between a chick read and a thriller. I have read all her books and this is definitely the best book written by Louise Bagshawe.
Should Have Been Called Assassin
This is probably Bagshawe's most compelling and original book since The Movie. It's the nearest thing to a thriller she's written and it certainly thrilled me. I read it in one five hour sitting, but this did mean I picked up a couple of 'inconsistencies' the twice credited new editor Harrie Evans didn't.
Ok, here goes: on page 2, Lola is described as having 'ice-blue' eyes. By page 440, they've become 'pretty brown eyes.' Hmmm, classic eye colour error which I always, always notice and would never make myself. Maybe she wore contacts as a disguise, but better put in a sentence alluding to that next time.
Also, on page 26, Melissa muses sadly that she needs to marry Fraser because she's 'past thirty already.' She's only two years younger than Will, who a year later suddenly announces on page 250 that 'he was thirty-nine years old.' This means Melissa's thirty-seven, so she should have thought on page 26 that 'she was past thirty-five.'
So, still a couple of errors to be corrected in the second edition. I also think Bagshawe wanted to call the book Assassin, but had to settle for the similar sounding Passion so that her readers would think they were getting another heavy dose of shopping, sex and brand names - as they did in the disappointing Sparkles, Glamour and Glitz. Thankfully, this isn't the case - there's passion, but there's also a lot of killing & fsacinating stuff about assassins 'hunting' each other instead. Even the hero, Will, is an ex-assassin as well as the standard billionaire.
Excellent, highly engaging read. Bagshawe is finally back on form.
