This is the latest book from one of the world's leading textile artists and authors on designing for textiles, written especially for those with limited art training and drawing skills. "From Image to Stitch" takes a range of techniques - that don't include drawing - for design development, such as using computers (quite simple programs), digital cameras and images, photocopiers, tracing paper and copyright-free design books, and shows you how to make the most of them when designing textiles (especially with the photo transfer to fabric methods). Examples of the design process with a range of fully finished textile pieces help guide and inspire. The book is divided into four sections, each concentrating on an area of study: form in nature; landscape; travel; and ethnic sources. Suggestions for researching in each of these fields is given, and then how to translate the research and images into design and finished textiles. Of course the designs and transferred images will be embellished by hand and machine stitching, felting, applique and mixed media techniques - all explained step-by-step.This is an essential book for all textile artists who want to add more design and originality to their work from one of the most authoritative textile artists working today. This is the latest book from bestselling textile author Maggie Grey. It shows how to design in textile art without any formal design and drawing skills. Customer Reviews
Another great book from Maggie
Just bought this - an excellent purchase. Full of inspiring examples, great ideas to try out, and hints and tips - all illustrated with clear colour photos. Recommended for anyone doing City & Guilds - especially the "Creative Computing into Textiles" course.
truly inspiring
Wow. This is one inspirational book. The cover is very intriguing and whets the appetite for a book that does not fail to deliver. This beautifully presented book shows you how to take an image from photocopy to painting and how to transfer it into textile art. Projects include books to bangles and much more besides.
The methods used are uncomplicated and are therefore suitable for beginners or experienced stitchers alike. No technical knowledge is necessary to follow the precise instructions. Having produced an image by whatever means, this book then shows you how to transform that image by hand or machine embroidery. I love the creativity of this book, Maggie Grey is a true guiding light and will boost your own imagination to produce exciting pieces of textile art. This is a fascinating side of stitching, fully explored in this book .
My own ideas on this have only just begun to form after I saw a textile artist printing on silk through an inkjet printer. My imagination was fired and this book presents me with the know-how to complete the projects running around in my head. This is a very comprehensive book, covering many techniques. I find it invaluable.
just a pleasure
Maggie Grey has outdone herself again! Her books ar full of inspiration for both the budding and confirmed textile artist. She is a source of inspiration and "From Image to Stich" is no exception.
It is a pleasure to own. It is never out of place on any coffee table - as a picture book or as a conversational starter. Or set there to invite a new artist into our world.
