Brilliant Sat Nav, Rubbish TMC Module4
I bought my Nuvi 310 deluxe about 8 weeks ago and have found it superbly intuitive to use. I drive all over the UK, and its mapping is excellent. I spent the last week in North Cornwall and was massively impressed at the Nuvi's spot-on accuracy, right up to the tiniest coastal track. That said, I've already found 3 (newly built) roundabouts that its mapping doesn't recognise, but unlike the Tom Tom, the Nuvi doesn't throw a wobbly and spend the next 10 minutes recalculating, it manages it in a seconds. The POI facility, coupled with bluetooth is a brilliant idea, and unbelievably, it works. I expected it to be a uselessly small database of things/places I'd never need nor be interested in. NOT SO! You can find just about anything wherever you are, (Chemists, petrol, post office, parking, ATM's, Food, Shops -the list really is endless- and then with one tap, you can call them up via bluetooth. (I've read a review which criticises the bluetooth; There is an update available to download which improves it and the voice quality too.) The scary thing is that its up to date, exhaustive, and so is actually useful. The add-on travel stuff is a great too, Translator, Currency convertor etc, and I can't wait to test it full-on in europe.
If I had to make a criticism, its that the instruction book is not very helpful. Because you can't find too many answers there, it forces you to play around with your Nuvi and so discover how to do stuff for yourself. Which is probably a better way to learn anyway.
WARNING: Don't buy the TMC traffic module with it. Its useless. Worse than that its useless AND annoying. The software works perfectly well, but this is a fine example of rubbish in : rubbish out. The 'Instant' updates are woefully late and so you find yourself either in a jam it hasn't yet heard of, or not in a jam its warning you to avoid. The idea of TMC is a good one, the execution, to date at least, is woeful.

Very impressed5
I bought this product much to the annoyance of my fiancee, since I come under the category of someone who doesn't really need sat nav.
However what drew me to this one was not just the mapping but also the safety camera, the traffic warnings and the compact size (about the size of a deck of cards)

The traffic system is basically an aerial that plugs into your unit and suckers to your windscreen. I though this would be a hinderence but on the contrary it is very quick to put up and take down.

I tested the system the same evening on an 80 mile trip. I was doubtful at first, on the way to the destination it chose a route that I would not have thought was the fastest, me thinking the motorway would be quicker. On the way back (at about midnight) I did not plug in the traffic receiver. Big miskake! This time it took me via the motorway, and sure enough I hit a big traffic jam due to road works.

The unit is full of nice little functions that make it more suitable for someone like myself who doesn;t so much need the mapping function. We did not know the postcode of our destination but was able to search by pub name and town. It can also direct you to the nearest car park or petrol station.

Having not used any other satnav I have no basis of comparison, but I would say it the pros over others I have seen are:
- Size, it is not bulky, even the window mount is compact
- Mapping, very clear with good audible directions
- Safety cameras, not to be relied on but a good reminder
- Traffic, Now my favourite feature
- Bluetooth, I used to use an earpiece but this is much easier and safer.

I expect I will use this a lot more than I originally expected when I first bought it.

Highly recommended.

Garmin Nuvi 31 Deluxe 4
I purchased this unit just before Christmas and over all i am very very pleased with the units accuracy and detail of even obscure locations. The hands free works adequately the majority of the time but on occasion it is unusable due to such poor sound quality and i revert back to holding the phone to my ear where the sound is perfect, so it is not down to a poor connection on the network and more to do with the garmin.

The TMC traffic module it pretty much a complete waste of time. One of the main reasons for me purchasing a satnav with traffic was to avoid me losing so much time sitting in traffic, this device has done zero to reduce this and it is worse than useless for traffic information i have been stuck in major hold-ups with not a glitch of info for more than half an hr by which time you can be a 6 mile traffic jam. The motorway display are way ahead of the TMC when it comes to even major roads like the M25 being completely closed the TMC doesn't tell you anything about this at all CRAP CRAP describes it.If i had paid for a subscription to this service which i believe on other units you have to pay for i would have been demanding my money back as un-fit for purpose.

But apart from the useless TMC module this device is superb and i would still fully recommend it. I have demonstrated this to friends who also have Sat Navs and they were very impressed with the size, 3D map quality and features people have commented how inaccurate the Tom-Tom maps are and even after roads have been changed for 20yrs or more they still have inaccurate maps this Garmin has never once done this to me and has been 100% accurate in my usage so far.

The Garmin website could be better as the stuff is spread out and not easy to locate what you are seeking and it would be better if there were more add-ons available.

This is my first Sat Nav and i don't anticipate changing it for a long time.
