Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson give the flat-share sitcom a much needed kick up the Bottom in the show which, alongside Men Behaving Badly (1992-8) injected new life into a legendarily dire genre. With glorious comic gusto they play Richie Rich and Eddie Hitler, a pair of misfits barely surviving unemployment in a Hammersmith hovel. They spend their life in frustration, minus female company or money, in facile schemes to entertain or better themselves, their best intentions always proving the catalyst for hilariously OTT cartoon-style violence. The humour benefits from being rude, crude and surreal, and though happily bereft of subtlety or sense the situations and set-pieces are always superbly constructed, delivered and directed. But that's only to be expected from a show that essentially presents two of The Young Ones a decade down the line.

Mayall and Edmondson had earlier perfected their surreal double act as The Dangerous Brothers and these first episodes of Bottom find them in side-splitting form. From a misadventure with pheromone spray and the wrong sort of dogs down the pub in "Smells" to a birthday "Accident", which introduces The Young Ones' Christopher Ryan as a regular guest character, this is BBC comedy at its best. Brace yourself, 'cos this is going to hurt.--Gary S Dalkin

British comedy, but not as we know it!5
Bottom is probably one of the best comedies the UK has produced and yet is so often overlooked. the comedy is extremely funny and very physical. in which other programme can you see two men smack each other around the head with frying pans, or violently assaulting each other with umbrellas. this is the kind of thing that only Rik and Ade can carry off, and they do it with aplomb.

this is a MUST see! buy it, buy it, buy it! that's an order people!

The Best Comedy Show5
This is easily the best british comedy in the past decade but unfortunately it is overlooked so often that it is sad. Rick Mayall & Ade Edmonson are the funniest Duo since the 2 Ronnies but with a completely different style of comedy. This is more of an in your face, say and do anything for a laugh show and the fact that it has so many loyal fans just shows how well the 2 work together.

For any of you who aren't familiar with the series then here is what it's about. It's about 2 flatmates Richard Richard (Mayall) & Edward Hitler (Edmonson), to be honest that's about it. The program doesn't follow any particular storyline or stick to any particular style but just spontaneous comedy at its best. On every episode you are garaunteed foul language and violence which is very slapstick and at times very shocking.

This is like no other comedy you have seen before and you wont see it again because the pair are 1 of a kind. I have been fortunate enough to see them live on stage and they are just as funny because if something goes wrong in the show they are both smart enough to ad-lib it into their script.

10/10 = A great late christmas gift so get it now.

Bottom5
Ive watched Bottom since i was a kid, making sure to record all of the episodes when they were aired on the BBC. It is without doubt one of the most hilarious comedies ever created. The fighting, swearing, farting and just constant outragesness will have you laughing out loud, i promise you. And if it doesnt, you dont appreciate comedy genius when you see it. Ive watched it countless times, and it never gets boring. Its a must see comedy. I only wish there was another series for me to enjoy.
