Customer Reviews
Not as good as 1 or 2
This, although funny, doesn`t have the same edge of comedy as 1 or 2.
By the time, this was released, Bottom had become too mainstream, the gags play out sort of pantomime, and it loses its edge because of that.
I would recommend the 1st and 2nd lives, the 1st is good, a little edgy, but the 2nd is my favourite, more refined, but very clever as it twists and turns so much.
awsome 2 more
another 2 more live stage shows from the stupid duo. awsome good for a night in with ur mates drinking beer and pizza. very crude and rude wich is cool.
Brilliant but not quite as good as the first two shows
The 3rd show changes the setting from the flat to a desert island. At first this seems odd, but it works well as it lets Ade and Rik try some different comic routines than before. Also, the new setting lets them set up gags involving complex stage directions and scenery, which are geared up to go wrong and create even more comedy. The second half involving a bomb works less well, but is still entertaining. Like the first two shows, this is something you can watch again and again and still find funny.
Sadly, the 4th live show is the one where Rik and Ade really start to go through the motions (ooh missus). I've always thought that anything they do together will be funny, but at times they test that theory and there are long stretches where you start to feel a little sorry for them as their banter fails to raise even a titter. The previous bottom shows hardly contained much in the way of a plot, but here there's no story other than them standing on stage for an hour and a half.
It starts where things left off last time with them on a desert island. There's a routine involving getting Rik's pants off, which is amusing, a long and not funny bit involving a bird and then just when there's a hint there might be a story coming along they go to an intermission before the bar closes, a jarring uncomfortable moment which kills things stone dead. The second half works slightly better for about half an hour where they dress up in the old clothes again and without props annoy each other. The interaction and humour here works well, right up until the moment they again start to give up on the idea and try to crack jokes about trying to find the bar, spotting the audience and other too-knowing and lazy bits. Then everything ends in a mess with a song, which they do better in the next show.
So, it's all a bit scrappy and forced with a feeling they didn't put enough effort into the material, but there's still a few good moments, usually when they forget lines, which scripted or not, have a more natural feel than the rest. So this dvd is worth buying for the brilliant 3rd show, but it's probable you won't want to watch the 4th more than once.
