an EXCELLENT book for beginners
I have just started to try to teach myself the saxophone. This book explains everything very well and is very easy to understand. Its also written with a sense of humor!
A MUST for a beginner.
Not great value for money if you can already read music
The book devotes a lot of space to reading music and not so much to playing techniques. The first 18 pages on assembling the saxophone, breathing, and embouchure are excellent, with very clear photos and illustrations. The rest of the book seems like about 75% of it is devoted to learning to read the dots, which is obviously necessary if you can't read music already, but a bit superfluous if you can.
