Superb coaching DVD for the beginner or improver
I am fairly new to the world of golf, and I have watched a few golf DVDs that provide instruction on the basics of the game. However, none have come close to the clear and detailed information provided by this DVD.

Something that most beginners and high-handicappers need help with is their swing, and you will do well to find better instruction on building a consistent swing than the one Simon Holmes provides. Holmes covers all aspects of the swing, breaking it down and slowly progressing in stages to the full swing. He also demonstrates a number of drills you can try on the practice range to cement the aspects you need to improve on. There are additional shorter sections on Bunkers, Chipping and Putting which also provide useful techniques you can use on the course to help improve your game and your scoring.

It is very welcome to find a DVD not aimed at the US market - the coach is British and the DVD concentrates solely on the content with no extra baggage. The content doesn't feel scripted at all and the presentation is simple, effective and different in style to the coaching lessons on say, the Golf Channel.

In an ideal world, I would like to have seen more detail on the short game, but the content provided is more than enough to warrant buying this DVD.

It's the next best thing to visiting the Pro at your local course and I hope Simon produces more DVDs in the future. Currently (February 2006) this is the No 1 Golf DVD and deservedly so.

read the hogan book, read the nicklaus book, watched a woosnam video... and then i gave this a try. If like me you are starting out and playing off of a high handicap i can only tell you this... if you want to improve your swing buy this dvd!!
It is explained so easily, the chapters on swing, putting, chipping is broken down nicely.
I took a small part of the dvd and applied it to my swing to make it more consistant and the results are already very pleasing!! Well done Simon Holmes... thankyou!

Deeply explanatory, perfectly paced- Excelent all round
I've played club golf for 30yrs off 17ish handicaps. Listening and watching Simon explain things clearly and in detail has hugely improved my understanding of how to use a golf club. I can hit a ball relatively well but what i struggle with is consistency of direction. Since listening to Simon, i'm able to take what i've learned to the range and understand what i'm aiming to get repeatedly good at and why it matters. I'd reccomend this to anyone with the patience to listen hard and to think about what is said, plus the perseverence to practice until the improvements become your routine. If you are looking for a quick fix, this DVD will not help- take up an easier sport.
