Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review:
In a nutshell:
Tiger Woods returns and in better form than his recent Ryder Cup letdown, with a whole host of refinements and additions (and the odd subtraction) to the winning PGA Tour formula.

The lowdown:
The problem with updating a golf game every year is that, unlike most other sports, nothing much changes in terms of players or courses. Despite that, this update tries its best with new courses, new golfers, an expanded online mode and an even better create-a-golfer mode. The only downside to all this is that the main "Rivals" single player mode from last year’s game has gone, replaced with the inferior "Team Tour" mode. It doesn’t affect the selection of other modes though, including new options "Elimination" and "OneBall" and the four player "Bloodsome and Greensome". It may not reinvent the wheel but it does at least add some very welcome decoration to it - and thankfully not in the style of most golf clothing.

Most exciting moment:
The best bit about PGA Tour is still its simple and accessible controls. There are two main controls, the first uses the left analogue stick to swing and set the power and the right aims where you hit the ball. The alternative control places the hook and slice on the right stick, if that’s how you prefer it.

Since you ask:
The Xbox 360 version of the game became infamous as the first game to allow you to unlock the extra features by paying money via micro-transactions on Xbox Live Marketplace. You can, however, still unlock them the honest way on all the different versions.

The bottom line:
A minor update to the world’s favourite golf game. -HARRISON DENT

More of a Monty than a Tiger4
I got this game last week, and firstly, I have to say it is the best golf game I have ever played.

There are plenty of options, courses and players to use - and I have already noticed a challenging, but not too difficult learning curve.

There are a few small niggles - it is taking a long time to get my created player up to scratch to play on the PGA Tour mode. I am doing this in the new 'Team Tour' mode, which is quite fun - but it doesn't give you the thrill of being 3 shots down at the beginning of the final round at Pebble Beach.

Also, the camera angle of the ball approaching the green can be a little awkward and that makes it difficult for judging whether or no you need back spin.

All in all, the game is far from perfect - however it is a very, very good game.

Now, EA - please can we have a Ryder Cup mode?!

buy 2005 or 2006 instead3
more courses this year and better ones.there are far too many niggling problems with this game, some that existed in previous years but some new ones too. the power boost works only very occasionaly, the commentary is all over the place, the invisible crowd whooping is very aggrevating, all computer opponents even at 100% AI are useless,no visible increase in graphic quality since 2005 makes this game feel like a lazy rehashed version of other years.to be honest it is very playable for any fan of this series but be prepared to be disappointed, basically reasonable but should have been better.

Please try harder, EA3
Having bought Tiger Woods 2004 and 2005, I read several reviews before giving 2006 a miss.
How good is 2007? My major gripe is the inclusion of courses from the 2004 game(Predator and Highland) and 2005(Pebble Beach and others) whereas the most interesting fantasy courses of 2005(Greek Ruins and Paradise Cove) have been omitted. Gone are the scenario challenges in addition.
The commentary is both inaccurate and lazy since much of the commentary is a repeat of previous editions.
The inability to edit the annoying crowd member who shouts"get in the hole" at every opportunity is also somewhat tiresome after a while.
whilst this is the best golf game around , one feels that EASports have become a tiny bit complacent. My advice: don't pay more than £25
