Great for the Price!
for kids this is definitely a great set, i think the reviewer below must have got a faulty set as i have never had any of these problems. it is easier to use than other scalextrics, but the bodies of the cars do come off if you crash on a hard floor they can be easily clipped back on again, its just annoying. if you have never used a scalextric before you will be amazed at how fast the cars go! other scalextric sets are hard to get for under £70 so this is great for what you get.
2 cars
2 controllers
a decent sized racing track(for the size of the cars-about 3cm by 5cm)
overall great fun 4 every1!
My 1st Scalextric
My two children loved it. My 3 year old got to grips with it very quickly and got his car going with no problem and he loved the fact that went really quickly without coming off (flat out the cars do come off but then that is how it should be!). My six year old really enjoyed it and had a lot more control. Overall this is a great little starter kit. The best thing is that it goes together in about five minutes and is resonably sturdy. The cars do sometimes get stuck on the connections but a little push later and no problem. At less than £20 this can't really be faulted.
My First Scalextric. A great toy
7 months ago I bought this Scalextric for my granddaughters, 4 yrs and 6 yrs old, to play with when they visit. It has been a great success. Visiting 6 to 10 year olds also loved it.
None of the children have problems putting the cars on the track themselves, partly due to the magnets that help hold the cars on the track. The cars go at incredible speeds (10 laps in 12 seconds). At full throttle they will fly off, but that is all part of the skill and fun - keeping them on the track so you win! My cars were not damaged when they came off but a couple of cushions strategically placed would make sure there was no damage. I have had no problems with cars being stopped by the track. One car developed a fault and Scalextrix replaced it free of charge.
At 1/64 scale it is half the size of normal Scalextric and very compact, 100cm x 50cm, and so does not eat up the space avialable.
It's important to follow the instructions about set up and do not let the children hold the cars when they are powered up (in an attempt to win!).
I myself have had great fun out of the set by making: two lap counters triggered by two infra red sensors under the bridge, an F1 style 5 light (LED) starter coupled to a £6 electronic stop/lap watch that times 10 or 20 lap races. All adds to the competative spirit.
