Top Christmas present for 4 year old boy !
I did some research before buying the set for my boys Christmas present. He turned 4 the month before & I was a bit concerned that he wouldn't be able to handle the controls & keep flipping the cars but this set is actually perfect for the younger kids. The fact that the cars run in either direction & spin (they are designed to drift) certainly helps both in driving & putting the cars back on when the do spin off. The other option that I looked at was the `My First Scalextric' but I read some reviews that kids quickly out grew them so opted for this. It has one-piece body cars which take a beating (although the wing mirrors broke off the Lamborghini pretty quick). The best thing is that both my boy & I can play this together & it is possible to extend the track & add cars etc as he gets older.

It is rated min 5 years but even at 5 years old you would still need to help your kids assemble it & plug it in to the mains etc..

I even shipped this in nothing but the original box to an overseas address in the same packaging it was delivered from Amazon & it all arrived in one piece & I have had no problems with anything breaking (yet!).

The police car makes real siren sounds and the lights also flash, the whole family have had lots of fun playing with it.

The lambagini does 360 degrees turns on the track.

Poor build quality lets this down
The Scalextric started out OK but within 24 hours both hand throttles were broken - there are a couple of semicircular bits of plastic that hold the trigger in place and they just seem to snap off with normal use, causing the trigger to move out of position which renders the controller unusable. Replaced this item with a different set from Argos as we didn't want to wait for delivery. The exact same thing happened again, so there seems to be a problem with build quality on these hand controllers generally.
