Manufacturer's Description
Have you got what it takes to tackle The Stig and push your driving skills to the limit around Gambon corner in a supercar? Well now you can have a go yourself as the award winning BBC show is recreated in a special Scalextric Top Gear Powerlaps set! Budding Clarksons can recreate the speed and excitement of the Top Gear Powerlaps experience by challenging their friends to set the best lap time in the powerful Ford GT or the stunning Porsche 911 GT3R. The set comes with the official challenging corners, such as Hammerhead and Gambon, as well as two special edition Stig hand throttles. Some say that his feet are made of tyres and that he can control Scalextric cars with his mind…all we know is that he is called The Stig and he sits accurately moulded behind the wheel of our supercars. How fast can you make it around the track? The lap counter/timer included with Powerlaps allows fans to recreate the iconic Top Gear leader board.

    Fun for whole family4
Was given this set for my birthday - 40th(!). It survived the party, racing all night with decreasing levels of driver ability. My niece and nephew (age 3 and 5) both enjoy it, and have learned to modulate the controller so the cars speed along the straight and don't fly off the corners (so, educational I guess). As the other reviews have stated, the supplied cars suffer a bit at crossover crashes, and also during side swipes where the track deliberately narrows. Toll so far: 4 wing mirrors, and some broken windscreen wipers. Bit like driving in London then. The cars themselves, however, are fine and just keep racing. The working headlights and taillights are a nice touch, and although another reviewer complained about this, the cars are realistic in that the Ford GT really grips and gets on with it, while you can powerslide the tail happy Porsche around all the bends. Which are, incidentally, named after the corners on the Top Gear test track. The lap counter doesn't come with any instructions - or batteries which it needs - but Scalectrix will email you some (eventually). Overall, quite good fun, still works, and kids young and old enjoy playing when they come to visit. Even my wife enjoys the occassional race...

Christmas just like it used to be2
We were looking for a game to put in our loft and I was pleasantly surprised when my girls agreed to Scalextric. I chose this set after seeing it in a shop.

Set-up was easy, althought there don't appear to be any instructions for the lap timer, and we were soon pretending to be The Stig.

Within an hour both cars were broken (cosmetic rather than terminal). The problem with this set is that it has a X-junction rather than a flyover and hence you will have car on car crashes (which seem more damaging than car on furniture) and the cars will get broken.

So if you are intending to race your cars (rather than set lap-times with one car), which is surely the whole point of Scalextric, then I can't recommend this set.

    no race!3
Got this as a present for christmas. Its reat fun but suffers from two big drawbacks - the cross-over, which ruins laptiming and racing, but most importantly it came with two cars, a porche and a Ford GT. The Ford had a longer wheelbase and fatter tyres and the porche just has no chance against it - the Ford wins every time! so as a game for competitive racing its completely hopeless!
