Business letters that tend to follow standard format too often fall on deaf ears. The advent of the internet has loosened the world's communications ties even in the most prestigious executive suites. The letters - or anything written, for that matter - that receive the most attention are the ones that catch the eye and ear. The standard business rhetoric of the past tends to be tossed before it's finished being read.
The secret to the whole thing, of course, is the discretion of the writer and the understanding of his/her audience. Any book of samples is designed to be cherry-picked, not used verbatim, with the appropriate adaptation to personal style.
This is meant only to be a set of suggestions. Use what you can and ignore the rest.
