An easy to use masterpiece that takes great images
I bought two of these cameras for my 8 and 5 year-old daughters - indulgent, yes, but I don't regret buying them at all. This is a superb littel camera - very easy to use (we've had no trouble with the macro zoom function mentioned by another reviewer)and the image quality is first-rate. I use a Canon EOS 350 digital SLR myself and have decided to buy one of these for myself as a go-anywhere camera to keep in my pocket. The menu functions are very straightforward - the 8-year-old had sorted everything out in five minutes and even the 5 year-old had the video function under control within 10 minutes of picking the camera up.Don't get me wrong: this isn't a toy, it's a fully-functioned camera that happens to be so very well thought out that it's child's play to use. Transferring images to the PC is a doddle - the Digimax software is easy and hassle-free.
The one negative I have - as with most compacts - is that they get through batteries quite quickly - definitely worth using 2500mh-rated batteries. Other than that,I strongly recommend this unit.
Not bad at all
i bought this camera for my mum - she won't thank me for sharing her age but let's just say, she wasn't brought up with technology! She had got to grips with my old Samsung phone so I thought it would be wise to stick to the same brand. The menus are very easy to use and everything is laid out logically with a big screen to view. The battery was not great at first but I got her some rechargeable batteries and the battery life is as good as my lithium ion camera now. Not only that - it takes really good pictures. I was very surprised! And it has advanced shake reduction which all the better brands seem to have - I'm not sure mum has realised that one though! I can't say I have any grumbles on this camera, especially not for the price. You can't go wrong and I reckon this camera would suit a lot of people.
A great camera if you need it for basic use
You can end up spending a small fortune on digital cameras these days. If you buy cheap you normally pay for it in quality, and Ive been stung before a couple of years ago when I bought a £30 camera from a cheap brand. Samsung is a decent brand, so I thought I would take the chance, and bought this for my sister as a gift. She doesnt have a digital camera, and being a technophobe (her words) I hoped this would do the trick.
The quality of pictures it takes certainly are good, and they are comparable with my more expensive camera. The instructions are very basic, and the camera may not be intuitive to use advanced features. However, there is a standard Auto mode, which works well. The camera looks quite attractive too.
Some people have noted battery consumption is high. I can believe it, but buying some high end (2500ma) rechargable batteries should resolve this. I would also say that the 2.5inch preview screen isnt that great - a bit grainy. I was dissapointed in this.
If all you need the camera for is to take snaps and then print, email or save them on the computer, then I would reccomend this camera. Dont forget the added costs of rechargable batteries and SD memory card (this applies to many digital cameras though). This might add about £20 to the initial outlay if you can get a good deal from Amazon.
