Extensive but consise, however soent mirror its syllabus!3
I have just finsihed my Chemistry A-Level. I used this book. In the 3 modules (2 Half Modules incl.) that you do for Chemistry A-Level this is only sufficient for 2 and a half. You will need to buy another book for Biochemistry.

The books were a good resource for many exam questions and the book comes inclusive with sample questions and answers, however these do not necessary mirror the type of questions you will get in the actual exam. I had many questions that I couldn't answer immediatly on the exam paper and when consulting this book, I would have a 50% chance of finding the answer, you can do the maths for the reverse!

I would prefer if the book had more reference to the syllabus seeing that the book is made by OCR and so are the exams, not much to ask!!!

I recommend it only because I have little knowledge of other books related to A-Level Chemistry and I hope that students will have the facility to find another book that offers more.

Not exactly helpful2
I use this textbook is my standard textbook on the course, along with Chemistry 1. While the Biochemistry textbook by these guys is AMAZING, i have to say Chemistry 1 and Chemistry 2 leave alot to be desired.
1. As the person above said, they ARE made me the exam board, yet they dont actually cover 50% of the things OCR ask you in the exam... a bit pointless really.
2. Some of the calculations are VERY hard to follow.
3. A large proportion of the book 'waffles' and it IS hard to know which parts need to be known and which parts are excess.
4. A large majority of the Practice questions ask questions on minor insignificant points from the textbook, but not things on the syllabus..

I would strongly recommend the 'Essential A2/AS chemistry for OCR' by Ted Lister and Janet Renshaw. Alot of the information is much easier to digest there and much more to the point. However it would be best to read your course specification aswell, incase some specific points arent covered, and if your course provides the 'Chemistry 2/1' books, use them as an AID, not as the main revision material.
