Blues for the Red SunBlues for the Red Sun by Kyuss
Buy new: £6.58 / Used from: £2.99
This is the best album by the best band since Black Sabbath. Kyuss were genre defining, Stoner Rock was a term created to try and describe what this band did.
Wish You Were HereWish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Buy new: £6.98 / Used from: £4.99
Shine on (the complete version) cannot be described in words. This and Dark Side are comparable to each other but I prefer this album.
L.A WomanL.A Woman by The Doors
Buy used from: £1.04
The Doors are simply the best band to have existed. This , the eponymous debut and Morrison hotel are excellent. Also the Live in Philedelphia really captures the band brilliantly live.
Morrison HotelMorrison Hotel by The Doors
Buy used from: £1.49
This deserves to be in this list just for Maggie McGill. That track and " Been down so long" are so dark and bluesy.
The MusicThe Music by The Music
Buy new: £5.98 / Used from: £0.98
Such a good band and even better live.
Love Is HereLove Is Here by Starsailor
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £0.01
Another great debut. Not a bad track on this album, everything sounds so fresh.
Stadium Arcadium [2CD Digipak Edition]Stadium Arcadium [2CD Digipak Edition] by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Buy new: £11.18 / Used from: £1.99
By far the best Chilli's album. So much variety and class in this. It's hard to see how they could possibly better this. And I thought Californication couldn't be bettered!!
DirtDirt by Alice in Chains
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £3.31
I just love this album from heavy, loud, in your face "Them Bones" right through to the dark and brooding "Down in a hole" and the magnificent "Would?" If you don't own this, then get it.
(What's the Story) Morning Glory?(What's the Story) Morning Glory? by Oasis
Buy used from: £3.64
You can't have an essential list without Oasis, and Heathen Chemistry was so close but this was the best of the best.
ParanoidParanoid by Black Sabbath
Buy new: £5.38 / Used from: £3.79
Impossible to decide between this and Black Sabbath, Black Sabbath. They really ought to both be in the list.
No WowNo Wow by The Kills
Buy new: £9.79 / Used from: £4.75
The Kills are a very under rated band. This is a superb album. No Wow is a magnificent track you don't tire of hearing. Their 1st album is apparently just as good as this.
Live at Winterland '68Live at Winterland '68 by Janis Joplin with Big Brother and the Holding Co.
Buy used from: £4.23
This is a fantastic live performance of Joplin at her peak. Well worth an investment if you like this kind of female vocal style.
Head HuntersHead Hunters by Herbie Hancock
Jazz is not everyone's cup of tea but this is a magnificent fusion that deserves attention.
Mingus Ah UmMingus Ah Um by Charles Mingus
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £3.87
Again, really hard to decide whether to put this in or 'Black Saint and the sinner lady". This won due to it being more accessible. Classic jazz at it's best.
Vorsprung Dyk Technik: Paul Van Dyke Remixes 92-98Vorsprung Dyk Technik: Paul Van Dyke Remixes 92-98 by Paul Van Dyk
Buy used from: £5.35
A quick skip of genres again. This has everything you could possibly want from trance. No wonder PVD is known as God!
DJ-KicksDJ-Kicks by Tiga
Buy new: £7.98 / Used from: £1.20
The DJ kicks series is really consitent. Tiga is a new favourite. If you can get hold of his Essential Mix then do so, well worth a look.
DJ Kicks - Kruder & DorfmeisterDJ Kicks - Kruder & Dorfmeister by Kruder & Dorfmeister (mixed by)
Buy new: £7.98 / Used from: £3.97
Arguably the best of the series. This pair turn everything they touch to gold. Have a listen, you won't be disappointed.
With TeethWith Teeth by Nine Inch Nails
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £1.18
Reznors latest album and is certainly his most commercial. Excellent all the way through and Right where it belongs is now an all time favourite. Exceptional
Hot Rocks 1964-1971Hot Rocks 1964-1971 by The Rolling Stones
Buy used from: £18.97
Being unable to choose which Stones album to put in, I've gone for the best of their best period.
NevermindNevermind by Nirvana
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £1.99
Quite simply impossible to leave this out. Brough grunge to the mainstream and let us hear other fantastic bands. As a single Heart Shaped Box is the one track that should have been on this album
Back in BlackBack in Black by AC/DC
Buy new: £8.98 / Used from: £6.42
Great fun. This and Highway to hell were excellent albums. So much packed into such a short space of time.
