From the introduction by Hugh Laurie: "The first thing you should know and probably the last too is that PG Wodehouse is still the funniest writer ever to put words on paper. This much is uncontested by all but the most irretrievably insane. Fact number two: with the Jeeves stories, Wodehouse created the best of the best. The world of Jeeves is complete and integral; every bit as structured, layered, ordered, complex and self-contained as King Lear and considerably funnier."

Almost flawless
These three Jeeves & Wooster stories represent PG Wodehouse writing at his peak, and, as such, are among the finest stories ever committed to paper. Plus, the introduction by Hugh Laurie is as good a summary of a life spent in adultio of the Master as any you're likely to read. In fact, virtually the only problem with this book is in the reading order. For maximum enjoyment, "Right Ho, Jeeves" should be read before either "The Mating Season" or "The Code of the Woosters". With that warning in mind, put the cat out, take the phone off the hook, sit in your favourite chair and let the magic that is PG Wodehouse pour oil on your troubled waters.
Simply superb
I am not a great reader - I enjoy autobiographies but have seldom managed to get into fiction of any kind. I was reading Keith Waterhouse in his Daily Mail column and he mentioned how much he enjoyed PG and that most of his work was still in print. I like Keith Waterhouse and value his judgment so that evening I went to the library and borrowed two Wodehouse novels - `Love among the Chickens' (his first novel I believe) and `Big Money'.
I read them and was hooked. That was six months ago and I am now working my way through the several omnibus editions that are available.
I usually find that humour does not travel well. Most of the comedy films, TV series and books that once caused me to fall off my chair, now leave me cold, but Wodehouse could have been written yesterday. That wonderful world where the sun mostly shines and nothing seriously untoward is going to happen is as brilliantly funny today as ever. Relax in the knowledge that should a cloud or two appear on the horizon Jeeves will smooth the coverlets and supply the necessary restorative.
"Thank you Jeeves" - "It was a pleasure Sir, will there be anything else?"
Thankfully he wrote 100 or so books, so I have many years of reading pleasure left and then I shall read them again.
If by chance you have stumbled upon this review and not yet read any of his books, you have a treat in store. Please take my advice and buy yourself a volume or two, make yourself comfortable in your favourite chair, put your troubles aside for the nonce, step into the childlike innocence that Wodehouse has created and start chuckling.
Original and unsurpassed... Truly Brilliant
I read quite a bit and not a little humour and comedy. However I had always avoided Wodehouse and Jeeves in particular because of the rather annoying TV characterisations I had come across.
However I though I should give it a try after reading some of the accolades bestowed on the books.
All I can say is that is the best gift I have ever given myself. Since reading this collection I have gone on and bought or acquired just about every Wodehouse in print.
Many books and authors are said to be funny or hilarious when they are no more than mildly amusing. Wodehouse however is genuinely in a different category to anything I have read.
This is pure genius and extremely funny. However talking about the comedy does not do these stories justice. The language is sublime and a pure pleasure to read aloud to oneself and others.
My wife thinks I have gone mad as she finds me in states ranging from chuckling to myself to literally falling and rolling about.
I am so glad to have discovered this man's work. It is no exaggeration to say it has added another dimention to my life.
Wonderful .... please please treat yourself to this and others such as the PSmith stories.
