In the new Charlie Kaufman film, Joel - played by Jim Carrey - is stunned to discover that his girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet) has had her memories of their tumultuous relationship erased. He contacts the inventor of the process, Dr Mierzwiak (Tom Wilkinson), to have Clementine removed from his memory. But as Joel's memories progressively disappear, he begins to rediscover his earlier passion for Clementine and tries to escape the procedure from deep within the recesses of his brain. As Dr Mierzwiak and his crew (Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, Elijah Wood) chase him through the maze of his memories, it's clear that Joel just can't get out of his head. The NHB Shooting Script is the official tie-in with this major release and Oscar-contender from Columbia Pictures. As well as the full screenplay, it contains introduction and notes by the film-makers, a special 20-page section of colour stills, and complete cast and crew credits.

Mind boggling
I must admit, after the trailer I was expecting a comedy with a similar mood to Goundhog Day but this is done more like an art film (in a good way). The 1st half hour was a little confusing but then it gets really compulsive and entertaining. It's very funny, clever and un-Hollywood, Jim Carey is very restrained and plays it like a normal bloke so don't expect the usual rubber faced slapstick. It's not a dumb comedy, you have to engage the brain quite a bit otherwise it might not make any sense. If you've seen any other Charlie Kaufman scripted films you will know it's going to be off the wall and mindblowing. (See also Adaptaion and Being John Malkovich.
