Good old fashioned fairy stories, read with panache!!
The characterisation of human and animals personalities is finely crafted, and has immediate appeal. Thoroughly recommended, particularly for 7-9 year olds.

Andersen's Fairy Tales 1 - Not For Every Child!
Two stories are truly gruesome and VERY violent. Not prince overthrowing dragon in woods to save princess, gruesome and violent. I mean creeping envy, revenge and sadistic murder of an elderly lady and a young boy (amongst other things)! Definitely not for ALL children, in my opinion and personal experience.

That said, the remaining stories are great. The Little Match Girl is very, very sad though! [Not a good story for bedtime] But, so true to how some children even today must struggle while those with far more than they need walk by. A deeply poignant morality tale.

This double disc set contains readings of The Emperor's New Clothes (excellent!), The Tinderbox (not at all okay for my sensitive bunch), the Travelling Companion, The Ugly Duckling, The Little Match Girl (sob, sob), The Swineherd and Big Claus and Little Claus (Very disturbing!). Erica Johns reads beautifully. Crystal clear cheeky sounding voice. Smashing.

Fortunately, we've been able to make a copy of the discs excluding those we found too disturbing, as the other stories were not to be binned!
