Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
It's rare to get a soundtrack formatted like this. Two very lengthy suites make the listening experience more akin to a concert performance conducted by the maestro. The score was mostly removed from the movie (don't confuse this with the rap album), which is the reason for it being edited together like this. "Suite One: Bulworth Part 1" is an 18-minute adagio with four notable vocal segments that almost border on gospel fervour. At its end is the disc's only lyric: "Where Is He?". The suite concentrates on depicting Senator Bullworth's suicidal tendencies. Then in "Suite Two" (which is a minute longer--24--than credited), we have all the chase material strung together as the Senator's mistakes follow him. This is Morricone from the Spaghetti genre style of writing, blended with a little of The Untouchables. The cumulative phrase for piano, harpsichord, reed ensemble, guitar, and strings plays at an infectious broken-down series of tempos. Neither suite makes reference to the other. It's an all-round one-off. --Paul Tonks
