Glimpses of brilliance.....4
...though less impressive than 'Theli', this album certainly touches on brilliance. 'Wine of Aluqah' plays like a condensed symphony with the 'distinct beginning, middle and end' style that most classical pieces employ. It crescendoes in a frantic violin extravaganza of incredible power. Likewise, Clavicula Nox and Eye of Shiva are seriously impressive pieces.
'Wild Hunt' is an amusing take on the style of Maiden.

On the whole, the album is impressive and is worth buying, but it lacks the power and the strength that Theli had. More importanly though, it lacks the intricacy and fluidity of Theli. Theli was one piece of music, while this is many.

My advice to you is this: if you are a fan of Therion already, then buy this anyway. If you have never heard Therion, but are venturing here from a background in Metal, then most certainly you must get Theli as your first Therion album. If you are venturing here from a classical or some other background, you may find elements of Vovin to be more accessible than Theli, though ultimately you are likely to find Theli more impressive.

Don't get me wrong; this album is very good - it's just that Theli was brilliant! ;-)

Fantastic5
'Vovin' was the first album, I ever listened by Therion and after that they became instantly my favourite band. No other band I think have gone as far as them in doing classical music with metal particularly with that album which is so 'melodic' with a constant presence of guitars. I definetly recommend this album to any metal fan, it is seriously good stuff.

Striking stuff5
'Vovin',is by far my favourite album by Therion. It has a very good combination of metal and classical music which the band performs perfectly well. It is a change from the previous one, but it is as good if not better. I will recommend this album to everyone.
