A huge return to form
When those Brummie legends Napalm Death (actually only two-fifths Brummie these days, but it's still how everybody thinks of them) left Earache Records after over a decade and eight studio albums, it was not a happy parting of the ways. The label accused the band of rushing out sub-standard material to get out of their deal as quickly as possible, and because of this these records were not selling well. The band accused the label of doing absolutely nothing to promote their product once it was released so there was no chance it would sell well anyway. It was a split of the most acrimonious kind.
In fact, it bothered the world's foremost grindcore band so much that they wrote a whole album about it. With songs like 'Thanks For Nothing', 'Can't Play, Won't Pay' and 'Vermin', virtually the whole album is a vitriolic attack on their former employers. It is something of a return to form for the band, whose last couple of albums on Earache were a bit weak to say the least. In fact, it is a return to the glory days of the early '90s when Napalm Death were the most extreme band in the world, and is their best album since the career best of 1994's 'Fear, Emptiness, Despair'. Fans of Johnny-Come-Lately bands like Slipknot or (God help us) Papa Roach should take a listen to this to witness a band who were putting the fear of God into the world of music whilst those bands were still at school, and can still wipe the floor with them today. Superb. And the new album's even better.
Brutally astonishing
Before I purchased this album, I had only heard Fear, Emptiness, Despair and bits of Scum. All I had to go on were reviews from various websites and magazines. Most said that it was the best Napalm Death album produced...ever. And I have to agree.
This album is so brutal and powerful it makes you want to mosh harder than ever before. It brings the word GRINDCORE to it's true meaning. I love this album!
Music to righteous ears!!! Buy this album or suffer!
This is a grind great grindcore that every metal fan should own. It is suprisingly melodic, before I heard any of Napalm Death's songs I thought they were just another grindcore band that just created pointless noise.
I read some of the reviews of this album and all of them gave it 5 stars! So I decided to take a chance and buy it. When I put it on my C.D player I was blown away buy the very heavy yet melodic riffs.
The famous blast beats that napalm death were renowned for are very effectivly used. Barney's vocals are extremely angry yet they also have some humour in them. Before I bought this album I couldn't stand screamed vocals but this changed me forever. This album grows on you every time you listen to it. There is not a bad song on the album. I like every one of the 14 tracks. as the album progresses the tracks just get better and better.
My favouite tracks are probably contitutional hell, neccessary evil, mechanics of deciet and can't plat won't pay. Can't play won't pay is funny as hell because N.D have a massive go at earache. I would give every track on the album at least 9 out of ten.
Anyone who likes metal should own this album. If you don't you should be ashamed of yourselves. I now love grindcore and I don't know how i've lived without it. Just take my word for it and buy this album now!!!
