Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Animated movie Shrek, like The Muppet Show or The Simpsons, is tiered with visual appeal, fantasy, and sophisticated humour that appeals to children and adults on two mutually exclusive levels. Judging by the soundtrack alone, there is some genuine emotion coming from this movie; Rufus Wainwright, the Proclaimers, and especially the Eels all pen winsome, longing tunes. Dana Glover's "It Is You (I Have Loved)" represents the soundtrack's requisite glossy ballad, but it's better than most, and John Powell's climactic, orchestral "True Love's First Kiss" makes one wish there was a full score to accompany this soundtrack. On the flip side, Smash Mouth cover the Monkees' "I'm a Believer" with a groovy treatment of crunchy hip-hop beats, and Leslie Carter (sister of Aaron and Nick) gives a perky performance on the Britney-esque "Like Wow!" The soundtrack squeezes the last drops of juice from the overplayed Smash Mouth hit "All Star," but other than that, it strikes a great balance between cute-but-not-precious pop hits, and more grown-up songs that are well within reach of young ears. --Beth Massa

Absolutely Brilliant and worth every penny5
A fantastic soundtrack to a fantastic and funny animated film, the best i have seen for a while. A good range of singers especially the performance by the Proclaimers with 'I'm on my way'. Although you really have to see the film to follow the soundtrack and see how the songs fit in, i still reccomend buying it to those who may not have seen it yet.

Some truly beautiful music!5
Although I absolutely adored the film, I hesitated over buying the soundtrack. However, it's well worth it! Dana Glover singing "It is you I have loved" is one of the most moving songs I've ever heard and The Proclaimers "I'm on my way" can't fail to cheer you up! Every song on this album reminds you of a classic part in the movie. Although there are some witty songs on the soundtrack, it's all music with total heart. If you loved the film, you'll LOVE this.

An excellent monster of a sound track4
If you've seen the funniest animated movie for a long time then you'll know the music helped make Shrek a success. Some excellent foot tapping tracks, which take you right back to the film. Its also well worth listening to whilst driving as it certainly motors along. My only criticism is that it's a bit short, just under 40 minutes
