Amazon.co.uk Review
If you want to take better advantage of the PS2's DVD capabilities then the DVD Region X is a great device that allows you to "convert" your console into a multi-region player. The pack is basically a software disc which you insert into your machine; it displays a menu on your screen with all the regions (1 to 6) and lets you choose which zone the film you want to play belongs to. You then remove the disk and insert your DVD (using your controller and PS2 browser to select the film) and you'll have multi-region playback from your humble games machine.

A side issue is that the disk also solves the "green screen" problem caused by Sony's modifying the RGB signal to better accommodate video games--which typically results in DVDs having a rather sickly tint. The device even allows you to play the increased security coded disks (Regional Coding Enhancement) which manage to foil most chipped DVD players.

Older versions of this product included a "key" which fit into one of the memory card slots, but because Datel discovered there was a potential for piracy, with this version you just get the disc and have to provide your own dedicated and formatted memory card. It's best to use a new one as when it's formatted it will erase any saved game data. Also, gamers owning early PlayStation 2s may find that the software does not work with their machine.

Despite this, the DVD Region X is definitely the easiest and most cost-effective way of playing DVDs from any region, and the savings you make and kudos you get from having seen films on DVD before they've been released in the UK is more than worth the cost of an extra memory card. --Kristen Bowditch

Manufacturer's Description
The built-in movie player on the PlayStation2 video game console forms the centre of a high quality home entertainment system, with just one shortfall--it won't play movies designed for other regions. An essential purchase for movie fans everywhere, DVD Region X lets you play import DVD movies on your PS2. You'll need a dedicated memory card; simply load the Region X CD, sit back, relax and enjoy watching any region coded movie on your PlayStation 2. No modifications to your console are needed.

The Solution5
I feel sorry for those who have had trouble with this product, but I havent had any problems and find Region X to be fantastic !

Firstly lets lay some troubles to rest....

Region X is very very easy to use, you *dont need* a manual. All you have to do is -

Put the Region X disc in,
select the region you want,
and then place your DVD in the PS2.

Also please make sure you have a NTSC compatible televison otherwise its all pointless.

But I have to say I love Region X. Im a big Japanese animation freak and so this has opened up the Region 1 world to me ! The picture is flawless imho - with no tinting and no fuzziness. Again Im sorry to hear about problems others have had with this, but I myself cant recommend Region X enough.

Even plays new encrypted Region 1 DVD's5
I own a multi region Pioneer DV717 but unfortunately some of the newer region 1 DVD's have been specially encrypted so they wont play on most multi region players (including mine). When I tried this Region X with Hollow Man (region 1 new encrypted) I wasnt expecting it to work as my Pioneer Multi region cant play it...............but it did!!!!

You will be able to play any dvd from any region in seconds, just plug and play. For some dvds, (any region) you may need a proper scart lead that supports RGB, because some films will display in a strange grey/green colour with the naff standard euro/scart lead.

Simply Amazing with two minor flaws5
Many people purchases the PS2 Console for both Gaming and Watching DVDs as well , but here appears the problem of the Region Restriction , so if you are owning a PAL version of the PS2 you won't be able to play any DVDs coded with any region but Region 2 and 0(sometimes called Region(ALL)) , so some people makes modifications for their consoles to bypass the Region Coding , which results ofcource in your Warranty being terminated and also some Rumored problems about loss of quality and some times colors , so what is the solution then ?

DVD Region X offers a very simple and easy solution , simply put the supplied cartidge in the same slot of the memory card slot , turn on the console and open the tray , place the disk and after the tray closes you have to reboot the console , then it will load the introduction screen and asks you to choose the Desired region to play , you choose the Region and press X on the PS2 controller , the tray will open automatically and you get the Region X Disk out of the tray and place the Desired DVD instead , the movie loads and plays perffectly .

This Tool is very useful , for myself i had some cheap DVD player along with the PS2 console , and when the DVD player started to malfunction i went to the DVD Region X , and it never let me down!

There are only two minor flaws about this Disk , the first one is that every time you turn the console on you have to repeat the above steps(you don't have to repeat in the same session as long as you have,t rebooted or turned the Console off) , so i thought that if there was the ability to save the necessary files to the Console or the memory card so you don't need all the above steps would have been cool although i think it technicaly hard , the second flaw is that in some movies the Colors may feel a little green or something and a little hazy on the edges , i think it's due to the difference in the color's encoding between the Region one DVDs and the Region two DVDs .

Last thing to say that this Disk solves a very big problem , which is the RCE DVDs , we know that some DVDs has some kind of region code locking which preventing it from being played on the multi region DVD Players , but this Disk solves this problem , simply put any RCE DVD and it will play it , so i think although the two minor flaws mentioned above this Disk deserves the five stars .
