Product Description

Real-time strategy Star Trek: Armada II is poised to continue the success of the Star Trek franchise with the addition of true 3-D combat and a host of new innovations.

The action again takes place in the Next Generation universe, but this time the Romulans have been dropped and the line up of playable races has been honed down to Federation, Klingons and Borg. Armada II's story unfolds through these three separate single-player campaigns. Through 27 action packed-missions, players battle against the Cardassians, Romulans, Borg and the deadly invaders from Fluidic space, Species 8472. Each race has its own distinct play style, weapons, ships and base facilities.

Star Trek: Armada II promises to add a number of new strategic options and enhancements to the original game. Maps are bigger and better and there is a new Tactical View in which you can watch the Klingons "let slip the dogs of War" in 3-D.

The sequel also features an extensive range of multiplayer options, including up-to-eight-player competitions over LAN and the Internet where gamers can play as the Federation, Klingons, Borg, Cardassians, Romulans or Species 8472. Several additional multiplayer game types will also be available including variations of Capture-the-Flag, King of The Hill, and Co-Op style gameplay.

Amazon.co.uk Review
Star Trek Armada 2 is the follow-on to real-time strategy game Star Trek Armada. This time, though, you are up against the mighty Borg as they try to assimilate the Federation and all that stand in their way.

Fighting your way through 30 huge levels, you won't have too much time to learn how to use the new 100-odd craft and base objects that Star Trek Armada 2 has to offer, and to help you, Activision have introduced a new formation tool so you can now control your fleet more effectively in battle.

The graphics are similar to the first and show the vastness of space, dangerous nebula and incoming spacecraft to a high standard. The menu system is easy to get the hang of for those venturing into this style of game for the first time.

If you're looking for multiplayer options Star Trek Armada 2 caters admirably and you can have up to eight players at once across the internet or local network.

Die-hard Star Trek fans will have plenty to smile about, while space RTS fans however might find the graphical interface sometimes difficult to appreciate and might be better sticking to the likes of Homeworld or Command and Conquer. That said, this is a commendable follow-up to the original and should give you hours of entertainment. --Jason Denwood

A must get5
Star trek Armada 2 takes place 6 months after the origonal game where the combined forces of the Romulans, Klingons and Federation defeated the Borg. This time the plot is roughly the same but this time only the Federation are going into the Delta quadrant and the Klingons being left to preserve peace in the Alpha quadrant.

In this game you command 3 teams in succesion (Federation, Klingon and then Borg) once you have completed the first set of missions you can move onto the next team. The Romulans have been dropped from this sequal and only play a role in the 'instant action'. Each team has new ships which is an improvement on the 8 you had in the first game. If you have ever watched Star Trek: First contact you will have noticed that the Borg are easier to destroy, this game solves the problem.

The Federation have 8 new classes of ship although the majority of these do not have special weapons they do add a new versitility to your fleet.

The Klingons have been (grudgingly) left to protect the Alpha quadrant, they feel they are babysitting the quadrant, when the Cardassians attack a fleet of Federation peacekeepers soon the Klingons find they will need all of there strengh to deal with the new threat.

The Borg are bigger and more powerful than ever literally. They now have 4 different types of cubes that can now assimilate technologies as well as the crews and starships of the other races.

As well as that you can now colonise planets and trade, there are also new resources to colect metal and latinum.

Also in this game you now have instant action (like random map games in Age of empires) games in which you can go any team you want from the Federation to Species 8472. You can also play this online.

I rate this very highly but you need a 3D ACCELERATOR that is compatable with Direct X8.0 to support the graphics. THe game also includes races with fully playable ships in the instant action games.

The ability to Modify5
The Game itself of Star Trek Armada 2 is a vast improvement to that of Armada 1. While the basic concept, and many of the ships and stations are the same, the graphics are now very believable, and its three dimensionable, ships can go up and down, unlike armada 1.
Levels are longer, and better. Instant action is also better, now giving you the FEDERATION, KLINGONS, ROMULANS, BORG, SPECIES 8472, and the CARDASSIANS as playable races.
The fun does not stop there either, as all those with an ounce of sense will find Modding the game very easy. Webites such as www.armada2files.com and www.armadafleetcommand.com offer free downloads to its members that include new weapons, ships, stations and even an few extra levels, some even come with installers, but manual instalations are easy.
I have personally added 2 new races, the MAQUIS that I built myself, and The DOMINION that I downloaded. I also have new ships such as the PROMETHEUS, CONSTITUTION-R, GALAXY-X, OBERTH, UPGRADED DEFIANT, DAUNTLESS, CHEYYENE class etc for the Fed, DEEP SPACE NINE STATION for the cardassians, the SCIMITAR and VALDORE romulan classes from 'Nemesis' and all my klingon ships now have cloaks, my federation galaxy X has an immense phaser cannon, and the Borg have a REAL CUBE, no fusion crap.
Buy this game, and mod it, the game deserves to be modded, but a word of warning, finish it first, mods can sometimes screw levels up, so only play instant action after you begin modding, and you cant use mods over the internet!
I would certainly reccomend this game to anyone.
I want to personally thank the runners of the beforemensioned websites, you are wonderful people!!!!

Star Trek: Armada 25
I immensely enjoyed the first ST:Armada game, and was anticipating the sequel tremendously.
The most significant changes from the previous version include the new ship classes (you can build the Galaxy-class this time) and additional resources (such as Latinum). A few other tweaks, such as colonising planets and the ability to warp are nice additions too, as are the appearances of Ferengi and Species 8472 vessels. However, the missions and the plot lines are very similar to the first game, and ST:Armada 2 feels very much like an 'expansion pack', rather than an outright sequel. I would thoroughly recommend this game to the people (like me) who finished ST:Armada and wanted more, but if you didn't like the first version there's not much new here for you.
